Anyone’s rocking brass bolts/fasteners on the engine like primary, trans, cam, lifter etc etc..
any feedbacks on strength and rustiness..
thanks people.
That guy got pretty creative with those plumbing compression fittings in that thread you posted Ron. I love stuff like that. I might even steal the idea.
Colony used to sell brass plated kit's, studs & acorn nuts of some configuration. Straight brass for small non critical stuff maybe and I'd try to find marine grade.
If you google strength comparison steel vs brass fasteners, you will get several hits on companies who explain the materials used in fasteners. Brass is softer that steel, does not have the same strength characteristics as steel. They should not be used in place of fasteners that require strength, hold critical parts or components. I would also be concerned about corrosion between brass and aluminum or steel as far as threads go. I am not an expert in fasteners, but google the above and you will get some informative reading. Also a good, major fastener supply house in your area may be able to answer some of your questions.
Good Luck!!!

Colony was a good source ... I got my Gold Plated push rod tubes for my Shovel from them many moons ago

I went all brass everywhere. A few brass bolts for small things, but as others have mentioned, nothing requiring strength. For all engine bolts I used brass bolts covers made from bullet cases.
I've got a few brass bolts on my Dyna. Rocker covers are brass -- bolts are replaced with studs and capped off with brass nuts. I also have brass bolts for the dashboard, derby cover, and timer cover. I originally had allen head brass bolts on the derby, but they were soft and rounded off right away, but I found some plated ARP bolts that worked great.
I don't have any photos that show them up close, but I can take some later.
I think the timer cover bolts were from eBay, and the derby & dash ARP bolts were from Chopper Haus. Don't remember where I found the rocker bolts. https://www.chopperhauss.net/search?q=gold
