In Iowa they have the course marked where all the cones go. I went on a sunday went thru the course just useing the marks. Took the test on Tues. No problems at all. Passed on a Fat Boy. Find out where they do the test I'll bet they haveyour course marked also. Go practice once or twice. You will do fine. let us know what happens.

"go for it, kid!"

Great advice here - I think you got a plan - only part that worried me was you said you hadn't practiced yet... that's a problem. Make no mistakes about it - you can do it... but the cone test and the 'turn around" or whatever in the box is kinda tough. Just know you have a margin of error. Good luck

Get another 6-month temp extension on your learner's permit (if possible). Contact the Director of STAR(that's what I did). He will give you a voucher for another class (free maybe) and reschedule in '08 (if you passed the written portion). The Eagles organization in Caldwell (next to Birds of Prey HD) has the road course laid out in their parking lot.A STAR instructorgives the road course for $5 fee on Wednesdays (thru DMV).Have to take this on your own scoot though. This is what I did.High Desert HD in Meridian is suppose to have the STAR road course set up sometime in the future. BTW, your insurance company will be contacting youprior to yourlearner's permit (1-yr max)expiring....must have m/c endorsement for insurance coverage. Good luck.

I am set up to take the test thursday at 10:30am. I printed out the outline to the test http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...torcycle-test/and went down to the practice site. The sharp turn, u-turn, breaking, and controlled stop isn't an issue at all. Basically the weave is going to be the make me or break me. I did about 15 of them at the practice site and than I said "why not practice at the actual site I will be taking the test" so I rode over to the site I will be taking the test and practiced the weave some more. I think about 80% of the time I don't havea problem but I don't have cones so I don't know for sure because I am obviously not looking down. The painted markings I am weaving betweenare about 3" x "3 so depending on what size the cones are, I could be screwed. I will practice a bunch more the night before the test and see what happens. Also the swerve seems to be a little tough on the wide glide, giving 10ft to swerve beyond a 7' line going 12-20 mphseems a little much. I am asuming if you are going 12 mph you get 10 ft but if you are going 20 its going to be further ( pro-rated system like the stopping test )?What kind of turn is the best for this, counter steer hard or counter and lean?

I read the scoring system on the link above and I dont understand the system. Is each test worth 10 points for a total of 70 points and I would assume you can't get more than 10 points deducted, any insite on this would be greatly appreciated.

Anymore insite would be appreciated. All in all I think I will pass.

That test must be super easy in theclass when you are on a 125 or a 250.

Just thought I would give you an update in case anyone cares. I stopped by the coarse again today, I did the weave about 40 times. Right away it was kinda difficult but I warmed up quickly. I found a can, bottle, cup and lid, so I placed them on 4 of the markers. I finished doing it about 20 with ease not hitting any markers. My test is at 10:30 so the plan is to leave work at 9 and head over to the practice coarse ( A different coarse that's close ) and if no cars are in the way get warmed up.

I give it a 80 % chance, god I hope I pass so I don't have to go the speed limit on the interstate because I can't legally be on it.

does ID limit what type of road you can ride on with a permit or is it capped at a certain speed? go in with the renewed confidence and you'll do fine.

Target fixation if you look at the cone you will hit the cone. like the guy said before look at the last cone practice again int he morning. I had not riden in years and a fatboy was very heavy for me. I passed just fine. the guy asked me if i had just moved up to a fatboy. i said yes he said "I figured you looked like it scared everytime you stopped or turned a corner but you did fine."
GOOD LUCK

I PASSED Yippi now I am 100% legal. I also got new tabs on my car that were expired 3 months ago, I only ride the Hog so I didn't realize it.

Anyway I got docked 2 points for not using my front break enough on the fast stop, other than that perfect. The guy said that I did a very good job, I know I completed the coarse faster than anyone else, confident and it showed. You can tell some people show up there completely unprepared. One guy almost dropped his big, I would have classified dropping his bike and he put his foot down on the weave and still only got 5 points nkocked off.

I am so releaved, I renewed my liscense for 8 years so I have a long time before I need to go back to that office.

Thanks for all the help and support.
