Every day I see guys listing their bikes onthe sitefor stupid money.
Rant: ON
Wake the fu*k up! Your bike is not an investment, it LOSES VALUE everyday youown it from the dayit comes off of the show room floor til the day you sell it. You buy it, ride it ( hopefully for a very long time) and eventually get another onewhen this one wears out. If you decide to purchase a crap load of chrome, go fast parts, or anything else...consider it pissed away money and enjoy the reason you bought that _____ for! Don'texpect to get every penny plus tax and shipping back for it in the sale.

Sorry about that guys and gals that have your bikes priced right. I just can't take some the stupidity I am seeing. For gods sake, you can buy a brand spanking new 07 Ultra for $18k and 07 Street Glide for $16.2k and some jerk offs are trying to get 20 large for a used bike. If they like it that much keep the SOB.
There are people out there who will pay too much for a bike if they like it and want it now. Same is true about anything - houses, cars, beer, cigarettes at $42.00/ctn, whatever. It's the ones who refuse to lower the price after testing the market that grind my axe. When I was looking for a bike a few weeks ago, I talked to a local guy who wanted $17,000 for an 03 RKI with 30k miles on it. Would not negotiate the price because he had to fly back to where he delivered it to out of state and ride it back. It was Vivid Black though. He's going to own that sucker for a long time. Local dealer had the exact bike in an 07on the floor OTD at $18,000. Lots of bikes I looked at on ebay went unsold because the reserve was not met. The one I bought had a reserve of $2,500 less than the other FXDL's and I bought it at the reserve price. There was only one other bidder. Go figure.
Moral of this rant is that if you want to sell it, price it right. Market research is only a click away.
There is a reason they cant sell it for lower.....debt. Many people finance all the chrome, leather, jackets, helmets, sales tax, fees and so on. Plus all bikes drop in value when you drive them off the lot. So people end up owing $25K, on a bike that could be resold$16K for example. Unless you got $9K to kick in to get the title, it aint going to sell!
You want a rant - I hope all the dealers that have been ripping us all off for many years get a taste of their own medicine now that HD has decided to start making 10-billion bikes a year. The shops are going to have a hard time saying "we are a MSRP+Tax+Fee+AND 5K WORTH OF DEALER INSTALLED PARTS IF YOU WANT THIS BIKE dealer when they have a bunch of year-old bikes sitting on the floor because the economy went to crap and the Sunday afternoon, twice a year riders decided to pay their over-extended mortgages instead of getting ripped at the HD dealer in their giant stealership building that we all paid for by buying overpriced bikes. Let them go broke and sell bikes out of a shed, I don't need their $600 coatsand $50 t-shirts anyway. That is my rant.
wbogley you hit the nail on the head.......debt. As long as people can walk in to a dealer and get payments where they want them they will sign on the dotted line, no matter for how long or what kind of intrest. Then like you said in a couple years they decide they want a new bike or want to get rid of the payment and they start to realize they owe thousands more than when they bought it. I see this all the time, guys and girls giving 14 to 15 grand for a 1200 sportster with some kind ofscreaming eagle kit and a few chrome trinkets. They never put the pencil to it and figure that by the time they make the payments for 72 plus months they are going to pay twice what they gave for it new. The prices of used bikes is not like it used to be, buy it and ride it for a couple years and make money on it. You can watch bikes on here or any other web site, if they are priced high they sit in the garage. If they are priced to sell they move.
Deciding how many bikes to build each yr must be a nightmare for HD,esp figuring in the economics of the areas they sell to.Until they cut back on those numbers, these bikes arent going to retain what they did yrs ago when you were put on a waiting list. The idea today seems to be build as many as you can, dont design them to last forever.the used bikes are a buyers market.
then go buy you a new one and spend $5000.00 on accessories, someone is buying them, who made you the expert on bike values, there is a dumbass born everyday.

Exactly. He is obviously trying to beat the prices down. I suspect many of these posters are buying and then reselling anyway. They are looking for desperate sellers.
You cannot buy a "brand spanking new" (maybe a demo?) 07 Ultra at $18K out the doorwith accessoriesand sale tax. Who you crappin?
If new ones are such a deal - buy one. Otherwise, pay the market price. My bikes are paid for. I'll ask what I want. If they don't sell I keep them. No big deal.
I sold a 2001 Heritage Softail Classic (vivid black and low miles) for > $14K this summer. They said it couldn't be done. Buyers are out there if you have what they want.
