Default I have a problem....Need help bad!!!

Hey guys/gals,
I need someone to put on their thinking cap, this is kind of a tech question. I have on 01' 883C that has a 1200cc kit, a big sucker, and V&H straightshots. The card has been re-jetted, #180 and #45 jets I believe. Anyhow, I rode to work today with no issues, about 30 miles. On the way home I stopped for gas with no issues. After filling up I got out on the interstate and headed for home. After a couple miles I noticed a rattleing/vibration sound. It only happens in the higher rpm range (no tach, guessing around 3500ish). It is not very cocsistent, kinda comes and goes, it loud then not so loud. If I pull in the clutch it goes away. When I got home I put the bike in neutral and twisted the throttle only to hear it once again at higher rpm's. Placing my ear next to the engine, it seems to be coming from the forward portion of the bike, I guess around the front cylinder. I went through and tightened all the bolts, and rode again but it is still there.

Now for the question, does anyone out there have a suggestion as to where I should start looking. I like to work on the bike myself, kinda slow, but I do pretty well. I am thinking rocker arm, but any input would help.\

Sorry so long,
Thanks,
Joe

Hey,
pipes are tight, need to check the head shields, but they didn't buzz when I tapped on them. However, when I got gas this evening, I noticed that it didn't flow with the same force as normal, kinda just spilled out of the nozzle. I suppose it could have been the bottom on the storage tank that I got right before they re-filled. I'll try to get rid of that gas and refill with some good stuff.
Thanks,
Joe

I had a 2000 883c that did the same thing. It took me a long time to figure out what it was. On my bike the horn bracket was mounted in between the down tubes on thefront of theframe, just behind the front wheel. Whenever I hit a certain rpm it would start to vibrate. After I figured it out and tightened it, I never heard it again. If your horn is in its original location, give it a look. Could be youre culprit.

Not a bad idea, I did notice in looking, that the horn was vibrating a bit at idle. I will tighten it up tomorrow and see what happens.
Thanks,
Joe

That would never happen in the states, we dont have petrol caps on our bikes .
But seriously, Joe, I hope the horn is the problem. Let us know.

Well, the horn is tight, along with everything else. I suppose it could still be a case of bad gas, but I would think it would make noise at all speeds if was some sort of internal thing, and the bike runs strong. I posted in the tech section, but am still open to any further thoughts on the subject. The noise still sounds like vibration, and still only happens at higher rpm's.

I am lost and getting frustrated. Oh by the way, I decided to check the primary fluid since I was looking things over and when I pulled out the bolt in the 3 o' clock position on the derby cover, the primary cover threads came out with the bolt! Looks like another project for me.

Oh well, such is life.
Joe
