Interesting topic. I did a couple years for some stupid $hit I did when I was young I have some ink I don't wear anything but boots, jeans, T-shirts, and a ball cap.
But I learned my lesson I follow the law now and I own and run a pretty successful construction company with a partner. Where I'm making decent money. I own
my own home and I just got married. I bought my first HD just a few months ago. Why? Because this is the first time in my life I could afford one. So what's that
make me? A scumbag, a RUB, an ex-con (Ok you got me there ) Who gives a $hit I ride because I like it, I have fun doing it, and it helps me clear my head
and relieve some stress after a $hit day at work. Call me what you want or put me in whatever category you want I don't care I'll still dress and act how I want
if I'm on my bike or not and I'll still ride every chance I get.

OK there really must be some images when you think of it.
There is a comercial running that shows a family riding in their station wagon and the man driving the car sees a group of bikes approching in his rear view miror. The wife see's the look on his face a turns around to see the bikers aproching and says oh oh. You see a biker with beard and hair flapping in the breeze pull up next to them and looks in and you see them panic.
Next scene you see a bunch of Ford "F" SERIES trucks all facing out in front of a roadside restaraunt, the bikers stop. They look at each other and one of the tuffer looking bikers says " I'm not going in there! Like he's the one now afraid and the Ford truck guys are bad a$$'s , LOL
I guess the Ford motor company better get some ambassadors too.

Hmmmmmmmmm

Interesting that I did some time because of stupid decisions on my part, and now years later I am a man of the cloth. Quite the contrast. I ride with boots, cause they are protection. I ride with a vest cause it also affords some protection, as does my helmet. I dont have ink, because I never liked ink.

If you want ink, thats cool.
If you want chains, thats cool.
If you want patches, thats cool.
If you just wanna ride cause you like being on your bike, like I do, thats cool too.

People get passionate about RUBS. I dont consider myself a RUB, but my next door neighbor says I am. He calls me an "enthusiast". LOL Now, he IS a biker. But he is a great neighbor also. We get along great. I go to church, he doesnt. He wears biker garb all the time, I dont. I guess some people like him and others would see me riding to church on Sunday morning with my suit on and think "there goes a RUB". I dont care.

I ride cause I like bikes. ALways have. The wife rides cause she likes doing anything I like doing.

Well Mike some people may not consider you a biker but what does it matter what they think. What you are is comfortable with yourself. I think that is true success. Most people wish they were where your at. Good for you and I guess since you did time that makes you a SB... oh wait you don't have ink so you can't be a SB... now I am confused! You're alright in my book. Ride safe buddy!

Ridin safe.................for sure, for sure.

I get highly amused at my "true" biker neighbor. Like I said he is a good guy and all, and would do anything for you. Most people look at him and reject him immediatly. He shaves his head all except a Chinese "Cue" in the back. Funny thing is he doesnt have ink. Most of the guys he rides with have ink. I have invited him to ride with me several times, but he is always riding with his club. Doesnt matter. I will keep asking and one day the biker and the RUB will cruise a road together.

How about those of us that are a guy or gal, with a bike?

I'm not a biker by any means. People have found me intimidating before they get to know me. I'm a big guy, I cant help that.
I've always done my own thing. I have a good job, at.. a law firm (I'm not a lawyer).

I ride as often as I can, but I take the train to work. I'm not leaving my bike at the station to be vandalized/stolen.

I love riding (limited as my experience may be) and I hope I can ride for the rest of my life.

I bought a Harley because nothing else was what I wanted. I tried and tried to sell myself that VTX, but I couldn't do it.

I'm one of the nicest people you can meet. I've always stopped to help anyone stranded. You sure can fit a lot more tools in a truck. Everyone is the same, until they prove they are an a**

Have fun, be yourself (or your fantasy) I don't care. Sounds like most others don't as well.

All I have to do is go look at my bike to brighten my day, even if its raining and I can't ride. (too inexperienced for wet weather riding)

Its been very interesting to read everyone's opinions in this thread. Many people have stated that the individuality is gone from HD owners, I see exactly the opposite. You have people from every walk of life and every belief.

Oya, I might be the guy that doesn't always wave on a HD. Its only from a standpoint of self preservation. I try, but sometimes, for me, its not safe yet.

I had a freind who was walking in the mall with his wife. Two guys were walking behind them and using words that were - lets just say it wasnt the thing you want your wife to hear.

He turns around and calls them on it. He asked them didnt they have any respect for a ladie being in earshot of them. One of the guys says, "Hey man, you need to respect me!"

His reply was classic and was just how I feel. He said " I did respect you - until you opened your mouth."

I always give the benefit of the doubt. I will trust you until you show me you cant be trusted. Fool me once - shame on you. Fool me twice - shame on me.

Scumbags come in all types shapes forms and fashions. They are not limited to race, color or creed or even whether they ride or not!

My wife's oldest sister and her husband live in Atlanta. Their youngest son was killed by a drunk driver a few years back. Interesting thing was the guy was an illegal mexican. So after that, Kenny developed a hatred for mexicans - especially illegals.

Now - 4 years later they have to move out of their house because he slipped into depression and wouldnt work and her income would not pay the bills. So, the wife and I go over to help them move out of this huge multilevel home to an apartment. Neither of them are in top shape and I suggest that we will all die from overwork if we try to move all this heavy stuff up and down these stairs. Everyone agrees, and I suggest going to the parking lot where day laborers hang out. We go and pick up two hispanics and make sure they got green cards and stuff.

THese guys worked and worked and were just as nice as they could be. By the end of the day, Kenny's heart had melted and the 4 years of hatred began to go away. He even tipped them above what we had agreed to pay.

Kenny learned a valuable lesson last week. He learned that you cannot generalize. everyone is an individual. Wait until they prove that they are scumbags before you mark them as such.

Well said, Mikeeeeee

What gets me is people that act like idiots, then wonder why they are not treated well in return.

I see people from all walks of life. Sometimes you can tell when you catch someone off-guard by giving them respect that they are not accustomed to. I usually address all men as sir, and all women as miss or mame. I sometimes get a double take from people that are obviously not used to it.
