New Helmet Review - LS2 Advant-X Carbon
The back story starts with the Carolina Girl. Not until two years ago did I get her to wear anything except for a half helmet. She loves her Bell Pit Boss and has worn several of them out. She switched to an LS2 Rebellion after I got one and we both like the helmets a lot.
She knows and understands that for long rides, especially those where we may encounter rain that I wear a modular for comfort and safety. I have been sporting a Schuberth C3 Pro and a Bell SRT. Both are very good helmets with the Schuberth being higher on the quality scale.
While planning our trip to Milwaukee two years ago I convinced her to purchase a Shoei J-Cuise 3/4 and she really liked it on the trip and then went right back to her half helmet. Fast forward and she tried on a LS2 Advant-X at a dealership after watching some YouTube reviews and said she really liked it. This was a major breakthrough since she usually would not even try on a modular. The different being the face guard rolls all the way back and it becomes a 3/4.
This has become her number one helmet. Yes I am both shocked and very happy at the same time. When I showed interest she immediately suggested I get one.
Here is my experience and review:
I purchased a Carbon version that looks almost identical to hers.
Fit: They run small. I wear a 2XL in everything else and this one is a 3XL and snug.
Weight: I see hardly any difference in the weight of the carbon, vs. non-carbon. It looks good, but does not have that really cool carbon look that frankly is usually a lot more expensive.
Face Shield: The clear shield is in my opinion the most optically clear shield I have ever owned. I am very impressed with it. The cool thing is even at this low price point it also comes with a smoke shield and the pin lock insert!
Field of view: None of my 3/4 or modular helmets have the field of view this helmet has. They did a great job on this design.
Drop Down Visor: Yes it has one, it’s easy to use, clear and clears my prescription glasses with ease.
Face guard: this works great, looks good in either position and does not create any drag or buffeting when moved to the back position. I’ve tried it to 80 mph and again it is very well designed and tested.
Ventilation: In the 3/4 position it allows plenty of air flow as would be expected. In the closed position I am very impressed with the air flow from the upper top vent. It is better than my Schuberth and my Bell. The chin vents are okay, but nothing to write home about.
Noise: I laugh at this one. I have never owned a quiet helmet. What I discovered is good ear plugs are a must and will greatly improve the riding experience. Alpine Motosports are the best! It is not as loud as my Bell SRT, a little louder than by C3 Pro. I’ll give it a 6.5 on a scale to 10.
When I first got the helmet it felt a little weird. Like it was not fitting properly around the ears. I wore it around the house a little and put it on and off several times. I decided to just give it a try. We rolled out week before last for three days and 700 miles. It could have gone very bad, but it didn’t. This has instantly become one of my favorite helmets. Zero discomfort at all.
Regular price for the Carbon is $549.00. I got it for 10% off and find it to be a great value and a do everything touring helmet.

I need to try that LS2 again. Damn shame that it just sits there with the amount of money I paid for it.

I purchased a Simpson Ghost Bandit late last year. Have only worn it maybe 3 times. It fits great and is comfortable, but you cannot close the top vents which made it cold in the winter and it is by far the loudest helmet ever. I plan to offer it up for sale here soon. Which I knew going in that it had a reputation of being loud.

I took the LS2 out of the bag yesterday and charged the Cardo. I'm going to start wearing it again and try to get it broken in.

Very different to see the CG with a modular on her noggin!
