Thanks for all of the comments folks. Yes, my wife and I are still a bit shaken by it. One comment struck me, '...if you see one, there's likely more...' yeah, I thought about that afterwards as well, honestly didn't have time to look for a second one following this one...also, my wife swears that 2 cars went by in the oncoming lane and that deer was just behind the second one, which would explain why I didn't see it until I did. It was crazy, everyone please be careful out there!
Deer carcasses are piling up on I79 on my commute to work and back.
Buddy hit one in 2023 Fourth of July weekend.
Broke his collarbone, tore up his Shoulder and broke a couple of ribs. Sold all three of his bikes. Got itchy over the fall and pick up another bike over the winter.
He is back riding now.
I have had a couple of close calls and I thank God for allowing them to just miss me.
I got on my wife's Heritage on Monday to take it to a garage to get it inspected. After the inspection I took about 2.5 hours to get back home(it's a 10 minute ride at best), it was a beautiful afternoon, so few of those days here lately. I was fine, no after effects of the deer scare except maybe a bit more aware than usual, I didn't think that was possible really but I'm all good now. Thanks for all of the comments.
Yes, PA is full of them, and they come out of nowhere in a heartbeat.
A good friend was killed when a deer collided with him and his bike.
A long time ago, a fawn ran into the side of my bike on a 2 lane road. I wasn't going fast, and managed to stay up. She probably didn't weigh more than 25 lbs, but she knocked my shovelhead onto the shoulder of the opposite lane.
It's been 20 years since I've ridden at night.

Only good deer is a dead one. Hit a few with cars but the one that ran out in front of me on my bike was the only painful one. Couple fractured ribs and broken bones in my left ankle plus a totaled Road King.

Yeah, we don't ride at night at all. I'm thinking no more early, cool mornings getting to work anymore either. That one isn't a big deal since we're retiring at the end of June but I see way too many deer on these cold mornings.
I nailed one on my Dyna about 6 or 7 years ago. Not fun. I estimate my speed was down to below 20 MPH by the time my front wheel caught him in the *** on his broadside. Spun him like a top. Still have that hoof scratching against the pavement sound in my head. I did not go down and had to tweak or adjust the front fender a little as it got "cocked" a little.
All I can say is, it is an eye opening situation and never take things for granted when riding. Expect the unexpected.
Found out later that evening that a riding buddy of mine had passed away earlier that day. I said to myself "Rotten Ray" was my guardian angel for that ordeal. RIP "Rotten Ray".
