My gas guage reads full even though its half empty - it does bob up and down a few times when the tank gets lower, however it always looks like its full. I have a 2000 classic ultra - where do I start on a do it your self repair?
I have a 2000 flht and I started from the fuel sending unit in the tank out.
Turns out all I needed to do was change the gauge. 10 min. job. If I was
you thats where I would start with the gauge. Good luck hope thats all it is.
Keep in mind that if you have to replace the fuel sending unit its an easy job
just time consuming. also the unit comes with every thing but the sealing washers.

Throw it away? I don't believe there is much a fix for that problem.
Just ignore it and go by the odometer or trip gauge....
I have a tank lift on my WG so the fuel guage is useless. I use the trip, when it gets to about 160 miles I refill than I don't have to mess with the reserve.

That's not the best solution either, because mileage can be very different depending on your average speed, taking a passenger, going up hills, etc. I'm not sure I inderstand all of these problems with the gas guage. Mine works just fine, knock on wood...
My Ultra gauge reads full for about the first 75 miles of the tank and then it starts going down. I go by the trip meter just to make sure. Once my gauge reads 1/4 you had better be looking for a gas station.
