Cable lock, fork lock, factory alarm system. If I'm travelling overnight I use a cover that has no H-D markings on it. Why advertise? If I'm travelling with someone, I lock the bikes together, not the wheels, the frames (after the engines cool down)

Well I picked up a Cobra chain/lock when I picked her up. I haven't had a need to use it just yet, but it is in my Tour Pak ready for action.

Now I just need a way to conceal a baseball bat on me. Although I live in AZ and have a CCW I can't carry at work. Besides, I think beating the crap out of them would be more effective.

So far, I'm just using the fork lock and factory alarm ... BUT, when I start doing some overnighters I'll have added a disc lock, siren & pager and maybe a chain ... and have my insurance up to date ...

I find that on a trip multiple measures are very discouraging to thieves. Cover the bike, disc lock, a cable lock secured to a riding partners bike and an alarm. Make em move on to easier targets. That's the idea.

When I'm out I use a disk lock and the alarm with the pager, and always park where it can be seen. Never park way out in the lot.

At home I still lock it and set the alarm. However after my dogs and I stopped a breakin down the street the word got out big time on who I am and what I do....

Danm! If I had to do all that, I'd be a nervous wreck. Do you live in a high crime area?

Quite honestly, I've never thought a lot about securing the bike using more measures than simply locking the ingnition and occasionally locking the forks as well.

I live in a rural area and the bike is stored underneath the house in the garage when I'm not riding it. When I do ride to work, I can look out my office window and see the bike parked not 30' away.

I might park it at a restaurant now and then, but I always try to get a seat inside where I can observe the parking lot. There's just not that much motorcycle theft here where I live!

If I rode to rallies or took trips that lasted overnight or for several days I know that I would have to rachet up security measures. But, I don't. In fact, I conciously analize as best I can the possible hazards I'll encounter at my destination before I ever get there and I stay away from areas likely to pose unacceptable risks to either the bike or to me. (all that emergency management training, I guess)

Actually, I worry more about the bike being vandalized while parked somewhere than about it being stolen. Some tweek can simply walk by and "key" your tank, cut your seat, or any number of other BS moves that they may consider to be funny.

After losing an 04 Big Dog Chopper to a scumbag thief this past August, I know that just depending on your insursance to replace your bike or give you a big enough check to replace your bike, an't happening. The Big Dog was bought for $29,650, put $6,000 down and financed the rest. Spent $4,000 cash on add ons. When the bike was stolen, I still owed a little more than $19,000, when State Farm payed me off, they payed the bike off and I got a check for almost $4000. Not much for having lost a bike I valued at $33 or $34,000.

Now God help the person that trys to steal my Ultra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
