GPS Units
I have to make a comment here. We read alot of posts about soccer moms and their cell phones. I put handle bar mounted GPS's in the same catagory as a cell phone.
If you're one who says I only use the GPS when I pull over and stop, you then have no reason to mount it on your handle bars. Keep it in your windshied bag, tank bag, pocket, whatever. If you have itmounted where you can see it at will, you will and that means you're not paying attention to what you've doing, just like people who use cell phones.
At $2.99 for 24 hours or $9.99 for a full month the cost is pretty resonable. I can even develop a route or store locations on the web site and transfer them to the phone.
What exactly do GPS units do for you? (not knocking them, this is a serious question)
Is it just an automatedroad map with turn-by-turn directions (I assume by programming your route in advance)? Or can they do the, "find me the nearest gas station (or Harly repair shop)" sort of thing? If I get myselflost, will it be able to find where I am and plan a route home on the go?
They seemkind ofexpensive just to save pulling over and checking a map once in a while, but if there's additional benefits to them I might consider one at some point. What's the scoop on these things?

You can also add way points to get you back to a certain area or address. Or you can simply enter the address you want to go to and it will take you there.
One of the best features is the ability to search for gas, hotels, food or even HD dealerships.
Lastly, most are voice also so you can listen for audible instructions or view the screen. They display mph and distance to reach destination.
It can route your trip for you via many different entries such as faster, shortest, no freeways and etc. You can avoid certain roads or if you run into a detour it will route you around it.

That does sound like some worthwhile functionality. Might have to look into getting one for next season (want to do some long road trips).
