Well put Dleppik I, my dept sends people to remedial evoc for at fault accidents on their own time.
Same here.
3 at fault accidents, on OR Off Duty. 3 Moving Violations (off duty).....our insurance company will no longer cover you to drive a Cop car. We have 3 folks working admin slots for at least 5 yrs, as they cannot drive a city owned car. These three are safe in their employment for now.
The contract has since been changed. For new(er) hires, If you are unable to be insured to drive a city car, you are given the opportunity to resign.
As a member of my agency's accident/pursuit review board, I can assure you that Officer that are deemed to be at fault in an accident are treated just like any other citizen. It shows on their driver's license, just like it would for anybody else. So, even if you have never had a wreck in your personal car, your personal car insurance can go up.
First, I have no reason to doubt the story. However, ASSUMING the woman felt no remorse because she was smiling is pushing it. Fellow cops are certainly going to show up and make light of it just to keep the woman from getting too down about it....just as any of your friends would do. Second, you saw her smiling AND the guy walk to the ambulance which means the cops already knew his injuries weren't too serious since they were probably there first and certainly checked on the rider. Third, as was said, she's going to get her's if it was her fault. If you did the same thing, you'd get a fine, higher insurance. She'll get that and then some. Lastly, who cares that it wasn't in the paper. The guy WALKED to the ambulance so it wasn't bad enough. If you think a newspaper doesn't like getting dirt on city agencies, you're crazy!! They do it at every opportunity. A minor traffic accident....even involving a cop....won't sell papers. By the way, did you see all the reporters that were told not to print it? Of course not!!!!
Years ago, I worked for Haliburton and the companypolicy was allaccidents are avoidable. Any accidentin a company vehicle meant automatic termination. You could appeal your termination by having the circumstances of the accident reviewed by a review board. It was amazing how few accidents a company of this size had.
OK...........idiocy abounds.
Too many judgemental comments in here, generalizing and throwing all cops into one corrupt heap.
I'm locking this thread.
Anyone want to PM me for doing so, feel free.
