bodes:A guy named 'Mike' did it a few years ago on a stock H-D Sportster. He has a nice write up with lots of pictures on the Internet. Google in 'Sportster to Alaska'. The first link that comes up is his. He is a good sized guy. He did it without bags, luggage rack or windshield. He had surprisingly few mechanical or tire problems along the way. Also, amazing to me, he did it with the smaller Sportster peanut gas tank. ............ BC
There is a member of the V-Twin forum who lives in Alaska and has done that trip a few times. Unfortunately, his name escapes me. I see quite a few people here that also belong to VTF that might know.
Your bike will be beat. Lots of chips, things coming loose. Check the nuts and bolts as you go. One of the bikes lost the retainer on the front wheel axle. Compensator nut came loose, parts like pegs dropped off.
Is a trip every biker should take ONCE. Look at taking the Ferry back from Alaska.
THINKING ABOUT TAKING A TRIP ON DEMPSTER HIGHWAY IN YUKON/NORTHWEST TERRITORIES. GOING ON A ROAD KING, ANYBODY ELSE DONE IT, WONDERING WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect lots of gravel on the Dempster.
Some will be hard packed with dirt, some will be deep and loose. It will be slicker than snot on a glass doorknob when wet and so dusty you won't see your front fender when dry.
The Alaska Highway is a "freeway" by comparison.
