Hum I have always pulled up and said hey but now maybe I shouldnt? Dont want to make anyone uncomfortable.. Just figured it was no big deal and is nice to chat for a bit while waitting. Now I will have to 2nd guess wether to pull up or not. Seems most that have posted so far dont want someone bothering them at the light.. I feel SO unloved....

If I am stopping behind other vehicles,I usually look for an escape route.... if there is one I stop a somewhat of an angle towards that point...never know when someone is gonna sandwich you between them and the car in front of you....and HELL NO I would never consider pulling up beside a stranger and wouldntappreciate a stranger pulling up beside me...I'll take safety over friendly every time...:&gt

I don't always know if people asking questions like this are serious, but heres the answer. A bike owns the whole lane just as a car does. Just as you wouldn't pass another bike in his lane while rideing, you don't pull into his lane while at a stop. I was doing about 55mph the other week on a 50mph one lane road when this other bike goes past me in my lane doing about 80. It was the absolute closest I've come to crashing my bike in years. Scared the bejeebers outta me. In fact, I was bejeeber-less for hours afterwards. I don't get quite as tweaked when someone pulls up to me at a light, but I would never do it.

I pull up next to them if they're left or right in the lane and nod or say hi. If they're in the middle of the lane, I stagger to one side a little behind.
That's how I do it.

For all you people that wont pull up its easy to tell if its ok to pull up beside someone and heres how : if the dude infront of you is in the MIDDLE of the lane thats an indication that he/she does not want anyone to pull up beside them. Ifhe/she are on the edge of the lane ( like I always am ) its an open invitation for fellow bikers to pull up.If you do pull up next to another bike its common courtesy to let them ( the original owner of the lane ) go 1st when the light changes, then you follow. You dont want anyone in your lane? , then occupy the center .... youdont mind ifothers pull up? , .... stay on the edge of the lane ...its cut and dry.

Never pull up next to a rider you don't know unless invited. You don't know what they are thinking or what kind of manuvours they may make. Just a bad idea IMO.

It's pretty much a rule of thumb...If a rider does not want company, you go to the center. On the left or right you're open to lane sharing.

That's all well and fine but I'm cautious around any biker I don't know but that's just me.
