Default Need Opinions on Garage Lift

OK, I have an idea for a lift for my bikes but to do itI would have to cut a 1 foot cube out of my floor.

I livein a newhouse in a new subdivision where every homeis in the 4's, I dont want to ever do anything to modify it in a negative way and lessen its value.

I want this lift and it would be handy for both my harley and my dirt bikes. to do it I will have to dig a 1 foot square out of the floor, mount an air over hydraulicramand a plate to it that would when lowered, sit flush in the floor. When raised it would lift my bikes roughly 10" off the ground. I want to park theharley on it most of the time and use it to clean and service the bikes. It's the third car side of the garage where I park the Harley and our dirt bikes so its out of the way. Of course I would have a safety catch to keep it from lowering on its own.

What do you think? if you were looking at a home to purchase would you think the steel plate in the floor (hidden bike lift) would detract from its value or add to it?

Great idea, I would think it would add to the value, at least to me

I see no reason why it would decrease the home's value. The next owner, if they didn't need a moto lift (imagine that!) could install a safe or just fill it with cement. Anyway, I can't imagine that being a deal breaker. Location and layout are gonna do it, not a hole in the garage floor.

Now, if you put an S&M dungeon in the basement, you'll need to expect some problems.

Wish I had room for it.
Cant see it would do much of anything to the home value.

Good question.... But I think most folks that don't know any better would think it may draw water or be tough to keep clean. If you plan on keeping the house for many years, do it. If resale is in the cards, keep it asoriginal as possible.

There are lots of lifts out there that don't require a chunk out of your garage floor. Fine, its your place, and can easily put put right if you decide to leave...just don't see any need for it, IMO.

Why not just buy a regular table lift???No mods to the house, can be moved fairly easy (only a few hundred pounds) Park the bike, Quads etc. And lift more than 10" so you don't bust your back crawling around. You can get some reallynice set ups for under a grand. Why does everyone seem to wnatreinvent the dam wheel???
