Would like some opinions on travel accross country.
I live in NH--Sprimg comes late here.
If I were going to go cross country to CA and up the Pacific Coast Hghy.what would be the best month to start ?
I do not want it too hot either.
Is the desert too hot to pass through in late April ?
No. I live here and the main thing a person wants to be concerned with is dehydration. At that time of the year there is absolutely no problem. In theworst of heat (mid-summer)the only real concern is to carry and drink plenty of water. At every fuel stop (if not more often) buy a bottle of water and drink it. If you're not peeing you're not drinking enough water. Generally in the peak of summer, if I'm on a trip around this part of the country, I'll start early in the morning ( 4-5 AM) and I'll be at some motel setting around the pool in the early afternoon.

I've ridden the desert in early August. Just cover yourself up and drink plenty of water. Also, it can get pretty damn chilly in the desert after the sun goes down.
