Just found this forum. Thanks to all for the great information. I have a question about a tour pack and this seems like the place to ask.
Has anyone ever seen a standard King Tour Pack covered in leather? I have a Road King Classic and want to add a tour pack for long trips with the wife. I think the factory packs are too small for what I want. I would rather have a full size tour pack and not sure how a color matched pack would look with the leather bags. I have seen some incredible leather work on custom car and bike seats. Would it be possible to have this done to a tour pack? Just a thought.
Never seen anything like that. If you're really looking forsomething to carry a lot for touring,I'd go with a large bag from Kuryakyn or T-Bags.No tour pack is going to carry that much.
Before you try the tourpack thing go to some leather sites like www.leatherup.com or www.rockinleather.com . These places have bags that strap to your backrest. They look like they hold a lot. I've seen some at a local bike shop that are huge. Then when you get to your destination you can take the bag off and take it into your room with you.

I echo the responses above, and sometimes wish I had considered that option when I had my Heritage (before I bought my Ultra). The additional benefit of having a large "T-bag" or some kind of pack that straps to the backrest is two fold: You can lift it off and carry it into the hotel or wherever you are staying, and it also comes off when you aren't traveling to return your bike to that classic look that originally caught your eye. There are bags that match the leather work of your bike -- listed a couple responses up on this page.
I think that will be a better bet, based on experience, and will give you the versatility and options you are looking for.
The 06 Screaming eagle Ultras came with the Preimium Tour pak it's already leather and a bit larger then the basic tour pak. I love tour paks they are soooo convienient!

Hey JTRK2,
I have been toying with the same idea as you. I have an 07 RK Classic as well and been thinking that a leather wrapped tour pak would look great. My primary use for it would be when I am riding to work and having to carry my personal stuff and lunch with it would be much more convenient popping open a tour pak rather that bending over and messing with the snaps/straps on the saddlebags. Been thinking of finding a used/damaged pak off ebay or such and then taking it to a furnatureshop or an automotive shop and getting the pak covered. Would probably come out cheaper that buying the SE pak too.
Got a guy at work too that I dont see very often that does some leather work. I am going to run the idea by him and see what he thinks.
not sure I would like a painted tourpac with leather bags. go the se version or find an upholstry shop to cover the bottom of tourpac, you could use a bra cover on the lid. theres an idea, how about a bra cover for the bottom?
