Well I'm ready to move up to my firstHD from my VTX1300. I was loking at how many threads and replys there are on this forum and figured I could get some pretty good advice on which HD to get based on all the experiences you folks have gathered up over the years. Here is what I am and what I'm thinking. Would like your .02 worth.
57 years old
never ride two up
ride to work every day (except hate the rain, won't ride)
short rides about every otherweekend up to 300 miles
long weekend trips up to 1000 miles maybe once every two months
vacation type trips up to 3000 miles once a year
Right nowI'm thinking the Heritageor aRoad King but not a done deal.
I've read a hundred threads and post on the overheating problems of the 07's but not scared off yet.I've heard how bad the heat is and I've heard thatthere is no heat problem at all.Don't know what to think since I have not been able ride a 96CI and don't have any friends with one.
Between the two I would go the softail Heritage. If it were me, I'd probably end up with the Softail Cutom with bag and windshield. But there are so many different choices it's purely personal.
I would go with either a blue Deluxe or a blue Sportster. And go the whole HD route. Fingerless gloves, fringed chaps,do rag and beanie helmet. Go for it!!![sm=alien.gif]

............and what's wrong with the Road King??? Huh? Huh?
Actually chokcan, either bike is a good choice. the Heritage is closer to what you have now (smooth, no vibration, etc) and if you put ondetachable brackets for the backrest and bags, you'll literally end up with two different bikes for the price of one. The Road King is better for long distance, but you may not like the vibration when it's sitting still....just the nature of the bike, I'm use to it. As for problems with the 07's......well I haven't had any yet.
Chokan, Both bikes are keepers. The Heritage has the counterbalanced engine and idles and runs very smooth. The RoadKing has the standard engine which really vibrates below 2000 RPM, but smoothes out as you go down the road. Both bikes will go great distances without wearing out the rider.
Best advice is to rent one of each, take them for a nice ride, 200-300miles, both low speed and cruising speed, perform some low speed exercises in a parking lot, Then decide which one is best suited for you! It will be money well spent.
Good luck, oh by the way. I went with an '07Heritage. Have had NO problems in 15K miles.
I had a Yamaha 1100 Classic and sold it last year. I've loved the Road Kings for years, so it was time to buy one. I bought a Road King Custom and I love it. I thought I'll never get use to the vibration. About a week of riding and I didn't even notice the vibration anymore (use to it). I rode my buddies new Honda Shadow the other day just for fun and I didn't like it. No vibration at all. I've had my King for a year now and I missed the vibration. I'd go with a Road King but thats just me. It seems to just fit me better. See if you can rent one and try it out. Good luck.
I'm 50 years oldand i do rides up to 650 miles a day. I ride a street glide a very comfortable ride. The windshield and the radiomake a big difference.
