Default Primo goes down on Christmas Morning

Short Version:
Primo was riding down the freeway minding his own business doing the speed limit in his own lane on Christmas morning when a cager decided to cross into his path. Primo went down but luckily through the grace of God was able to walk away with minor injuries. His beautiful skull encrusted 2005 Road King Classic was totaled and can be seen by looking at my gallery pictures.

Complete Version:
It was a beautiful Southern California Christmas morning and I decided to take the RK for an early morning spin before going to my 10yr old son’s church to hear him sing and recite a poem.

I had been enjoying the crisp cool morning air. The weather while cool was clear and by the time of the accident at 8:30am the sun was shining, no fog.

I had made a loop and was heading back home in the middle lane of the freeway when a car which I can only describe as bluish came into my path. I had been riding in the same lane for a while with the cruise control set at 68 mph. No lane changes, lane splitting or anything else. Just cruising home in the left hand portion of my lane minding my own business, checking my mirrors and enjoying the ride.

Judging from the angle of approach from this bluish car I can only surmise that the driver was changing lanes at a 45 degree angle to get to the fast lane as quickly as possible.

All I saw was the driver’s side nose end come into my lane from my right side. He was directly in my path with no space for me to maneuver out of harms way. I remember seeing the nose of his car, saying to myself “Oh $hit” then nothing but spinning sky and the sounds of car horns and brakes squealing in my ears.

Evidently I had bucked forward then slid off the back of the bike with the majority of my slide taking place on my right side. I ended up with abrasions on the back of my right hand, elbow, knee and outer shin. My right big toe must have hit something as it ended up swelling up to an incredible size but was not broken per the x-rays. My right heel is still sore but again not broken.

As soon as my slide finished and my head stopped spinning I was astonished to be able to pop up and start walking around immediately. No pain at this point. That would come soon enough as soon as the adrenalin rush was over. I was extremely lucky not to have been run over by a following car and am extremely grateful to an individual who stopped his SUV behind where I had ended up and was directing traffic around me and my fallen bike.

Several people stopped to offer assistance and act as witnesses on my behalf and I thank them also. The driver of the offending cage evidently stopped about a mile down the road. We all thought it was hit and run but they evidently needed that much time to gain composure and pull off and wait for the Highway Patrol to come and take their info and statement. I never saw him or her, don’t even know what kind of car it was and have yet to find out if he or she even had insurance.

My wallet survived the crash and even literally took some of the heat off of my rear side. My right side rear pocket was shredded. Immediately after the accident I had my wallet intact although my chain had been ground off in the middle. I had my ID and proof of insurance for the CHP officer. After being towed home and reaching for my wallet to pay the tow driver I realized that sometime during all the commotion my wallet fell out of what was left of my jeans.

So back I go to the accident scene only to find the wallet missing. After driving on the shoulder for about a ½ mile I found it. Where it was once only scuffed after the accident it was now smashed by more than a few car tires. My credit cards and ID were still there only now most of my credit cards had been cracked into 2 or more pieces. At least they were all there.

So here I am 9 days later. Scraped knuckle, elbow, knee and shin. A sore big toe and heel but alive and kicking and wa

Very sorry to hear this, though I am glad you escaped with only minor injuries. It's a pretty tough way to get a new StreetGlide [:@] I hope it all works out well for you!

Glad to hear your Ok, I've been there before also, I had to lay down my first bike and completely totaled it too. It took me a year after that to be able to afford something else, my insurance only paid for the bike, nothing extra. Good luck with the new SG, you deserve it.

Primo, glad to here you survived the incident. Going 68mph on a Freeway and getting up to walk when your finished sliding? You obviously did something right.. You always are in the defensive while riding and it goes around the back of your mind if I go down what will happen? You had some good safety gear on and sounds like you rode it out. As they say material things can be replaced, its your life your loved ones care about!!

Get well and good luck with trying to replace your bike.

Primo,

I am VERY glad that you are well enough to write to the forum.
Sorry about the bike. Looks like you were riding about the speed your guardian angel could fly.

The bike issues will get resolved in time.
Take it easy and heal well my friend.

Primo - Thanks for sharing this. I am glad for you that it came out as well as it did - I am glad to hear you are going to keep riding because these stories always hit a nerve with me and I would like to think I would not give up the passion of riding due to an accident - I would understand if you did but I gain strength knowing you are hanging in there - thanks again - kess
