OK guys, with all the helmet law threads on here, thought I would ask a question to the Georgia riders..
The helmet law reads mandatory "protective head gear" is needed. How many of you ride with just a hat or doo rag? I know itsa fine line and the ticket would get thrown out of court, but how much of a hassle will you get by taking the law to the letter? Real world experience from people who have done it or currently do it now is really what I'm looking for, but anyone is welcome to post..
I just wear my helmet.I believe in " Let those you ride decide" but, I don't need the headache of going to court to fight tickets.A couple of attempts have been made to change Ga.'s helmet law, maybe the next will be successful.
"Dis here is Jaw-ja...Boy....you one uh them hippie-commie-bikers tryin' to stir up trouble?".
What I mean by this is that I think you'll find that the local LEO and courts attitude here will make the difference. They all interpret the laws differently.

Wow, what a great looking Ga Peach to follow..........
Anyway, a big bunch of us ride from Gainesville, Ga. to Walhalla, SC, every July 4th, on a Lids Off Protest Ride. We start off here most of us not wearing helmets, ride all day in SC without lids, and then go to Helen, Ga for the fireworks. If you're interested, join us at Rabbittown Cafe, next July 4.
I think think the Ga law reads you have to wear Protective Headgear. It doesn't say you have to have it on your HEAD. You could wear it on your knee, or elbow.
HELMET LAWS STILL SUCK.

Why thank you GW. I'll have to keep your 7/4 ride in mind. We've got a nice group that rides up from the Atl. area often to Helen, come join us sometime. There's usually a thread going about our monthly rides in the Members Meeting Members section.

Being follicly challenged as I am, a doo rag fits the bill for protective headgear. I dont have anything against a helmet for a long haul or even in certain circumstances. I just dont like not having the option.. I like a cruise through the country w/o the damn thing.. I've heard allot of guys in the area say they do it all the time, but it seems they always have one on.. Dont mind a little trouble on rare ocasions, but ifI'm looking to get stopped and hassled every time I ride, its not worth it.. Maybe I'll just strap a lid to the sissybar and ride until I have issues, maybe they'll go easy...
Georgia rider here, bought a beanie in 1991 and still wear that everyday, any weather. Moved here from KY (if you have proper insurance coverage, right age, M class) no helmet law..
I am PRO-CHOICE all the way, helmets,etc..etc..etc..
Its your head..
