I have a pair of chaps and really don't use them. It has nothing to do with the fashion statement. I just find that if it's cold enough that my legs need protection, then so do my *********. I use a set of Carhart coverals (they sell them in black) and the work great. They also have the added advantage of blocking the wind that makes it through the zipper on my coat.

I was one of those that thought chaps were a useless fashion accessory, until I started making a 30 min run each way to work on the expressway, I broke down and bought a set to wear on the really bad days and then discovered that they're not so bad to wear on the not so bad days either. When I get off the bike after a run my legs don't feel half numb from the wind beating my pants legs against them.
