Safe Riding. ( What do you do ? )
Well if you don't advocate safety on a motorcycle board, where would you start ? One of the wonderful gifts this country allows is the right to an opinion. However, if you don't like the thread, you also have the right Not to click that mouse.
Here's the deal, we as seasoned riders have a responsibility to be a good example to new riders. I can remember fifteen years ago, most everyone had on helmets and jackets. last year we did a study on protective gear at panama bike rally. Our findings were one out of every sevendy five people had a helmet on and one out of every twenty five of those were actually DOT approved. We walked a parking lot full of bikes. I would guess there were close to two thousand motorcycles . we counted 12 Helmets. Out of those twelve, five were DOT approved. It's just not "COOL" to wear a helmet. Now take a look at the BMW motorcyclist where it's cool to have all the safety gear. You will hardly find a rider without gear. Like I said before, It starts with us.
are ya shittin me???? a responsibility to be a good example? i got yer example hangin ace
wtf is happenin to this place? it's turnin into a pc roundtable.

I hope this is a joke. If not, between the sermons on what's best for me, chaps and gloves, are you a biker, and Goldwings, this place is becoming more acenter for everything p*ssy andliberal and pc than aSan Francisco democratic fundraiser.
Get some loud pipes and be heard.
I had some heartburn with that one also. Here we are, old enough to buy a multi-thousand dollar purchase, old enough to take a DMV test or MSF course, yet we need to have our morality and responsibility legislated/preached to us as if we were a bunch of kindergartners. As far as setting an example for younger generation, shouldn't the parents be doing that. And I don't want to hear that not all parents do, because, I can't fix that. Don't have the time or inclination. I do what I do for me, if someone see's and emulates, fine. If someone see's and disagrees, fine with that too. Very socialist attitude indeed. Take away someone's right/privilege/capability to take care of him/herself, and than make laws to take care of them. If someone needs a good example to follow, then they probably shouldn't be riding a motorcycle in the first place, as they probably are lacking in other departments as well, such as individual maturity, judgement, reflex, etc. Was going to go to bed, but couldn't let it go, had to chime in. I don't much care for cliche's but, yes, let those who ride decide.

I like to smoke pot when I'm riding in a bad rain storm. However, I don't think it's for everyone.

WOW, is this the way you treat new members ?. I've been collecting datta for years. I do work with two organizations including my local ABATE. I don't get paid for my surveys, but the rewards are great. I meet a lot of nice people . I don't intend on making jokes of what I take serious.
Many thanks for those that were nice and cared about my friend. Thank You .
datta???? if you collect so much of it, learn to spell the fckin word. i'm the english honcho and it's my duty to tell you how to type for the ease of reading for all
abate?? given that they're primarily a "freedom of choice" org i'm real sure they'd throw you out on yer *** with that preachin, responsibility tude. or they let you hang around to pick up the check lol
A lot of good things on that list. One of the most important safety tips is to get out and ride. The more you ride, the more situations you are exposed to. Know your limitations and don't ride past them. After you have been riding for a while, you will be able to anticipatedangerous situationsand will know how to react. For the naysayers on the board, I would rather read these threads, than the ones where someone has been hurt or killed in an avoidable accident.
The best advice I ever heard was imagine 50% of the cars don't see you and 50% see a bulls eye on your back.In addition, get out there and ride and gain experience.
Can't say enough about experience.

... wtf is happenin to this place? it's turnin into a pc roundtable ...
Some punk wearing one of them retarded novelty-skid-lids instead of a decent helmet, falling off his bike and grinding half his face down to the bone ... why the hell should I have to (indirectly) pay for his medical bills, since an increase in severe accidents means higher insurance rates for me? If some punk thinks wearing a salad bowl wrapped in leather makes 'im look like a man, that's fine by me - but then he also better be prepared to deal with the consequences by his damn self.
"Freedom" also means that one is ready to accept the consequences of one's actions ... and not to expect the majority of "pussies" to foot the bill for one's own idiocy.
In short, and assuming the chair-farters at the insurance companies had even the tiniest of brains (which of course they don't), they should indeed let people do/wear whatever the f*ck they want to as long as they signed a waiver that clearly states that any and all damages caused by short-bus equipment are the customer's own damn responsibility.
Sort of like ... you think you need to blow down I-95 at 80mph in a T-shirt? Good on you ... by all means, go for it (gotta love Darwinism), but don't come crawling to the insurance company, asking for them to pay for skin grafts.

your problem is with the asshats you've elected into office that has made these laws making everyone pay for other's choices.

The other part is a bunch of parasites who seem to think ignoring common sense makes 'em cool (how pathetic is that?) but who at the same time have no problem leeching off the rest of us when they get hurt in the process of "being cool".
