rocker vs. cross bones
Just asking...
As far as motorcycle trends go, I think it is pretty interesting to watch them. We all buy what we like - but likes/dislikes change over time and are influenced by what is commonly seen and what is popular at the time.(Which is why we all hate seeing pictures of ourselvesfrom the 70's)
Thatis why motorcycles follow styling"trends" -people (most people)don't buy the latest stylebecause they want to be "cool" or fit in - they are genuinely buying what they like - but their likes/dislikes areinfluenced by what the current trend is. Which makes it no different than any other market (cars, clothes, houses, etc). Styles come and styles go (and come back again)- it is just interesting to watch it play out as a style suddenly gets wildly popular and then dies out - and I think blacked-out "old school" is the latest trend that is suddenly widly popular. Just an observation. Harley knows this - they look at what the popular trends are in the aftermarket/custom arena and they try to tap into it. That is just good business.
Hey, I don't live outside of the influence of any of this...I "chopper-fied" my VTX (raked/extended front end, 21" front wheel, 200 rear tire, etc). I did it because I genuinely liked it - not to be "cool". Wasmy tasteinfluenced by all of the "choppers" that were popular? Oh, I'm sureit was - I didn't dream any of that up on my own. I saw bikes like that around andI thought they lookedgood. The eye grows accustomed to what it sees regularly. But hey, I liked it. I also find myself wanting to add an old school "bobber" flavor to my 1200C by swapping to a peanut tank/chopping the rear fender, etc. - because I would like it that way, don't care about popular opinion. (but I'm sure that seeing all of the "old-school" bobbers - and Nightsters-around has influenced what I think looks 'good').
I'm sure some will say "I'm not influenced by anybody or anything, I make up my own mind, etc. etc" - everyone wants to think they are completely original - but it is funny how everyone makes up their own mind to like roughly the same styles at roughly the same times.
Never said that the changing trends were "bad" (except for chrome-plating shops, theybetter get goodat black powdercoating
)- it is nice tosee newstyles come around (or old styles come back) - would be kinda boring ifstyles didn't change. I just don't like either one of these 2 bikes.
Nothin' real different or new here folks.
I'm surprised that none of ya's have had at least this much imagination to do the very same thing.
Not impressive, jus' ol' school and I'm only 55 years of age, and live in motorcycle country. (Black Hills)
Again, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
I'm surprised that none of ya's have had at least this much imagination to do the very same thing.
X-Bone all the way...
X-bone has heritage, style, character.
Rocker is a poor man replica of the "Orange County" chopper.
