Freedom to choose goes with responsibility of choice. What responsibility? Whatever happens directly or indirectly because of our actions is our responsibility.

Accepting the risk? Unless you or I have been in a serious accident, work in a ER, or been on the scene as a cop or firefighter,I doubt we really know the risks. We make assumptions and tell ourselves "it's cool, I can deal with it."But the reality is we don't know what it's like to get really screwed up in a motorcycle accidentand that in itself allows us to ride.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for you (as in everyone) choosing to wear/not wear a helmet, as long as it doesn't impact my life in anyway. I have health insurance, bike insurance, life insurance, etc. to cover a worst case scenario on me.

Not everyone does and in thislawsuit crazy society, that means someoneelse could and probably will have to bear the responsibility for another's choices. That ain't cool, either.

These posts always get people worked up, the "less gear" folks all act like the "more gear" folks are trying to force em to gear up or something, you can't share an experience or thought without getting attacked for it. If you find yourself laying in the hospital bed wondering where your skin went and how the extra knots got on your head let me know if the first thought that flashes into what's left of your melon is, "man I'm glad I wasn't wearing more protective gear." Good luck out there tough guys, I'll just keep gearing up for the crash until they start paving the roads with NERF.
Cause a lot of the time the "more gear folks" ARE trying to force 'em to gear up... through bullshit legislation or their pathetic condescending attitudes and comments towards those who CHOOSE to wear less gear than the "more gear folks" think they should. You know, like when "more gear folks" say **** like "If you find yourself laying in the hospital bed wondering where your skin went and how the extra knots got on your head let me know if the first thought that flashes into what's left of your melon is, "man I'm glad I wasn't wearing more protective gear." Good luck out there tough guys, I'll just keep gearing up for the crash until they start paving the roads with NERF." Thus implying that "less gear folks" are stupid for choosing the "less gear" route. Most "less gear folks" have evaluated and accepted the potential consequences of their choices.

I don't know why some people can't just live and let live. Almost all "less gear folks" say "wear whatever YOU want to, just don't force ME to wear what YOU want to", while a LARGE percentage of "more gear folks" seem to feel some need to push their idea of safety or whatever onto anyone who doesn't agree. It seems that most "less gear folks" are more interested in FREEDOM TO CHOOSE than most "more gear folks".

Just sayin...

Cheers!

EXACTLY!! "The more gear folks" don't even seemcognisent enough toknow they ARE being condescending and preachy. Someof these clownsjust seem tohave a need to get others to think and be like them, no matter how stupid it makes them sound. The arguments they give for why they care about someone elses safety are weak at best, and an effort at self validation at worst. F*ck em.

Dude, don't even talk to me about freedom, I'm all about freedom, I love it soo F&cking much that I regularly go and help others acquire and defend it. You do what you want when you want so long as it doesn't affect me. And while you are at it there is no need to jump on the "live free" high horse like the more gear crowd is the only one here with an attitude, the second someone posts any kind of exp that makes them rething what they are doing for protection the less gear crowd jumps on em, this post is full of responses that do just that.

Good for you.

"You do what you want when you want so long as it doesn't affect me." is EXACTLY where I, and most "less gear folks", stand. No high horse, just live and let live.

You're wrong, by the way; what makes the "less gear crowd" jump on the "more gear crowd" is the utter condescension exhibited by the MGC. This thread is FULL of examples of it.

Cheers!

I know some of you don't like the look or feel it is uncomfortable, but I was in my truck today on the interstate and a semi way in front of me threw up a rock that cracked my windshield and scared the hell out of me. If this thing was to hit me while riding with a half helmet in the face there's no question I would have went down. Not to metion the better protection from other elements such as wind and rain... and of course the safety benefits, it's not worth it for me not to wear a full face, just got me thinking.

I hear ya', That is why I enjoy wearing my 3/4 with face shield. I've had all sorts of rocks and such bounce off the face shield that I know damn well would have hurt like hell.

I'll never ride without a full face helmet after the 70 mph accident on I-5 that I had. Had my HJC Symax on, and my face came out unscathed (rest of me did too, thank God). I had considered getting something cooler for summer, but now NO WAY.

Today, it was 34 degrees and raining, but I had to ride the bike to the shop.

I came to a stop at a traffic light, and flipped my visor up. Light greened, and away I went. At about 60mph, a raindrop got under my visor and hit me under the eye, and it stung like hell. Visor went down.

While I am claustrophobic, I've been wearing full-faces all my life. I probably have 5 of them, but they're all Arais, and they're so comfortable I've actually forgotten to take it off sometimes.

But nobody has the right to tell me to wear it ( and yet somehow, the State of Commiefornia does ). And I don't have the right to tell anyone what to wear, either. And besides, if I did, some of you guys are big meannies and I'd have to tell my mommy if you said something sarcastic to me that hurted my fragile feelings. And besides, most of you guys know what chances you're taking when you decide to go out and enjoy your motorcycle as you want to.

I would suggest it if someone asked, but I'd certainly understand why you wouldn't want to. Hell, sometimes I wish I didn't have to. I was in Oklahoma and watched a guy walk up to his bike, start it, and ride away. I was jealous. It takes me a couple of minutes to take off my glasses, put the hat on, and put my glasses on. Nobody should have to do that if they don't want to.

People tell me I couldn't get any uglier. I wear a full-face so I don't prove them wrong.

Insert a bunch of sarcasm smilies into this post wherever you may feel offended, because I'm trying to be funny. Besides, my mommy doesn't answer my calls anymore since she got Caller ID, so you'll be safe. Oh, geez, now I sound like asafety ****.
