Default RE: base decals??????????

Is there another base you could get your decals from or are they checking for the safety card at the gate also?

I am dumbfounded at the moment, I just tried to set up my course and I was told that because I am Retired Navy and not Army that I can not take the free course on the base. I have never heard of anything like that, I guess I cant use any other facility like the hospital or exchange, I am pissed, I better stop cause my blood pressure is going up.
Sir,

could be a space issue...........at NAS Pensacola where we can ride all year round I am running 5 classes.......4 BRC and 1 ERC..........these classes are fully booked............usually 1 month in advance.......due to that fact we had to cut our classes down to who is really required to get into the class.................active duty......DOD civilian working on base........then everyone else......what I tell everyone is this.......we can't book you into the class, however you can come as a stand by and if I have no shows then you get in>>>>>>>>>>>.mos t retired people understand the pecking order and will show up to see if they can get in..........alot of times they do............

I would go back and ask them if you could get in as a standby......someone doesn't show they let you in..........

Now back to the vest thing, here at NAS Lemoore in Ca we are only required to wear it at night and optional during the day. Yeah I hate to wear the thing but it has helped out more than a few times. One of my buddies went down at night about 2 miles from the front gate. The only reason why he did not get run over is cuz the drive saw the reflective vest. In that case he did not become a stat and is lucky for it.

On Ft Sill, OK you dont have to take the course if you are retired provide you dont live or work on post. I get asked at the gate, every so often, for my safety card, but then one of the other gaurds will tell them I don't need it.
Having said this I have have a card I took the course again when I got a fatboy since it was bigger and heavier than what I was use to. Mostly I wanted the practice and opinions. I know when I was in thecourse they had said we would need it every 3 or 5 five years starting in fy 08.
for the orginal post I would call the post safety office and ask if the course expires. I would not ask the MP station, registration office,or a gate guard. The post safety guy is the expert. this way you can get the right info. Remember knowledge is power.

its every three years on All Military Bases in Japan. It used to bea one shot deal and only the BRC (Basic Rider Course) now you have to take the ERC(Experienced Rider Course) also,Once you get both cards you get your license/Decal.You will have to renew only the ERC every three years. I donr see the point of retaking the same course every three years, do they think we will forget??? They got me by the short hairs too because I live on post. oh well.
Things have changed here in Okinawa. I had my ERC card from the states and didn't mean crap when I got here. They require you to attend the ERC here.
The Army has to complete the ERC every 6 months once certified.
The Marines that arrive on Island now will only get certified for 1 year and must attend training annually. I got here before the new policy change so I am good for 3 years.
Not sure what the Air Force is doing.
Personally I don't mind, the military pays for it and you get the day off to ride.
We also don't have base stickers. 100% ID check on every base.
Just don't get caught with expired stuff.

He rides a Harley, I'm sure you've seen him.

On our Base in Idaho, you're required to take the class, free of charge ( currently every 3 years, however subject to change) They did away with stickers a few months back. As long as you have the tclock sheet, your commanders endorsement, the card, insurance, you shouldn't be harassed, unless you're not wearing contrasting colors. The contrasting colors rule should be an open debate for this forum....

Amen to your post. DOD wide, don't we ALL agree it's the sport bike riders who are screwing up the rest of us? They are the ones who need remedial training and smarts before mounting on a bike. All agree?
