Well the dealer came and picked it up today, also said they have never seen this happen before. Now come on, they have been in business for over 30 years. Anyway, someone asked who did the mods to the engine, the only thing touched on it was the addition of head bolt bridges. What is so wierd is everything was fine, I haven't run it in weeks, I finally got it the way I want it with all the accessories and crap so I fired it up to hear the new slip ons, ran it max 10 seconds, nothing usual, then oil appeared between the fins. The dealer told me he has only heard of a crack due to extreme heat, no heat involved. You can see the crack plain as day. Oh well, let them figure it out if they can, I already convinced myself it's due to a bad casting. I'll let you know.
How was the fit of the slip-ons?? A little tight??? If you had to pound them on, hopefully it was just a tap. At least that's whatI would be telling everyone.
This latest generation of H-D's is the best ever madei dare say. You just got a fluke there, no need to panic, it's under warranty. They'll make it right.
D'ems fightin' wurds, Zona. Now, you go outside and practicebein' beatdown, I'll be there on the next flight out. Don't know if the heat's got 2 ya, or the food, either way, you dun got short circut'd some how!!!!!
Slip ons were actually a bit loose, I really had to crank down on the clamps to secure them. Cycle Shack slash cuts, and they rock.As far as seeing the crack, one of the pics taken is from below, the crack is 3 inches long andbetween the 2nd and 3rd fin down from the head....yes the crack is actually the jug not the head, my mistake first post.Get this...when the dealer's guy came to get it today he wanted to start it and ride it into the trailer! I asked him if he was retarded and he quickly dropped that idea.
RE: Cracked head (actually it's the jug, my mistake)
UPDATE Wed. 2/19 Dealer called today and tells me the case is not cracked. He says it is just "a pourous case" and he has seen several of these with the 96ci. They will replace it and have it back next Friday.I said wth do you mean and he replied that the oil comes right thru the care , no crack, no leaking gasket. Anyone ever heard of this crap? Is this quality?
I don't see the rage ...Thats what warranty is for..Far as the dude wanting to start it and ride it on the wagon ,,,so what,,his responsibility then..Relax..

Yes the 96's have had a few bad castings. Porsche had the same poblem when they went to the water cooled boxter engine. Over a three year period they repalace as many as 50 % of the engines.
Warrenty will take care of it. No problem.
Yes, warranty will cover it. Doesn't change my mind about quality at this time tho. If this was my daily driver i'd be in a world of sh*t. They said theyshould have it done and back by next Friday. So maybeI am lucky i'm in the snow belt, wont miss it for a while. Life goes on, about 5 weeks til spring!
