No worry about pissen people off.I for one am a Drag Racer and crave intense acceleration. Not to mention the love of tweaking machines like these. The money part is something you learn and how to do things without breaking the bank. You would be surprized how inexpensive building a Hot Rod can be doing it all yourself.I too have over 45 yrs in the saddle and still feel say 18 whenit's time to fire up theseHot Rods.Dog

Man, every time I see hmmr's sig-gif I forget what I'm getting ready to say.....

Oh yea.... Stage 1 is good enough for me. There's nothing out there like a Harley.

No matter what, a Harley is a Harley. Nothing to do with going fast, it's all about "going right"

[sm=icon_cheers.gif]
"NO KIDDING" I second the motion, whatever it was????? Now what were we talking about??

Speed is relative to the person riding. I don't think Harleys are slow. They're just not as fast as most sport bikes but they're faster than most cars and trucks. HD's are fast enough for me.
I believe speed is relative to the attitude of the rider.
I bought a bike to relax, not to race.
So, though my harley is much, much slower than my car (and, indeed, most bikes are, american or metric), it is really more than fast enough for me.

My thoughts exactly, but I don't think even a 911 would be that fast. I'm thinking more like a Lamborghini or Ferrari

I think you're missing an important point here. We WANT to keep riding Harleys; anything else is NOT AN ALTERNATIVE.
I know where you're coming from, but most of us have 'been there, done that', got the T-shirt. I've owned every type of bike and brand out there. It isn't like my RoadKing is my FIRST bike. I finally figured out what I want, it just took waaay too long a time. ALL of us here can't be WRONG, can we?
It's not about gobs of 'overkill' power' for me, but I don't want sub-par comfort, either.
I have no interest in any other bike than my own, (unless it's another Harley) so right now I'm making mine the way I WANT IT.
OTOH, I do want to make my bike to handle as well, and run and perform as best you can expect from a 700+ pound bike.
As far as I'm concerned, my bike of CHOICE falls a wee bit short of what I want. I want it to handle better, so I've done mods there. I wanted a tad more comfort on long rides so I've done some things to address that. I want to have a little more hill climbing power and passing power out on the highway so that what I'm addressing now. I've decided I'm too far into it to get a 2008 Harley and start all over again. I'm always gonna want the latest and greatest whatever year it is, that I know. I got over that. Tomorrow I may want something else and go off on that route, who knows? (but I highly doubt it)
The $$$ part enters into it a bit, but I don't smoke cigs, don't drink to excess, don't own a car and haven't for close to 10 years, and have a pretty fair income...and THAT'S how I rationalize it. I may regret that down the road, but so be it. We only go around once.
I have friends who can't understand it. Well, I don't understand a lot of things they do in their life, either. So be it. I don't even bother trying to explain. Basically, it's MY $$$, I'll spend it how I want.
I come to this site 'cause a lot of the folks here do GET IT, and that works for me. Period.

Hope this helps put this in perspective for you a bit.

I keep my bikes "pretty" close to "stock". We did have an 01 Ultra 124" 6spd, BUT I bought it from a friend who wanted the $$ to buy another 69 Shelby 500, I paid about 50 cents on the dollar for what he had done to it. Would I spend what it takes to do it form the ground up? Never. I'd buy a Buell to go that fast for a lot less. If I buy another bagger, it is because I want comfort, not speed. Right now we have a 750 Nighthawk in the stable (bought it and fixed it for my son), and I LOVE to take it out and hot rod with it. BUT, if I were in the mood for a fast bagger, and had a boatload of cash laying 'round, here you go:
http://www.americanclassicmotors.net/touring.htm Click the video, but most of it after he shuts it off is the list of goodies. GUMBY
BTW - we paid LESS than half that for the 01 in 03

I'm also curious. I know of only a few Porsches and Ferraris that will even match a 600cc sportbike. But somehow I doubt he owns a $450'000 Carrera GT or $800'000 Enzo. He probably owns a modded american car (Mustang, Corvette or other).

unless he's talkin top speed.....not many bikes will match the super cars in that world but even a stock roadglide will do 0-60 in just over 5 sec and not many cars will keep up with that....
