So after I got my V&H softail duals for my bike, I decided to sell my BSS. Long story short I sold them to someone here (who will remain nameless). He sent me a USPS money order for the amount agreed upon and I got the pipes out the same day. Only problem was shipping cost me a lot more than I had estimated. Because of the shape and weight of the box and the packing stuff I had to buy the shipping came out to be $120.00, well that's really my fault since I didn't investigate the price better. Well I PM him after I sent the pipes out with the tracking number so he can see when and where they are. I also asked if he could kick me a few more buck for cost of shipping that would be great, but if not I understand because we already agreed upon a price. Well 5 days later, I haven't even gotten a thanks for sending the pipes or anything from the guy. Now it is entirely possible that he hasn't logged on and so on, but if I sent some guy I didn't know a money order for a fair amount of money, I would be checking my email and the forum many times a day to see when they were sent. I don't know. In the end a few more bucks for shipping would have been cool but understandable if he didn't want to send any more money because of our agreement, but at least a thanks for shipping them out and not stiffing the guy would have been nice. Ok off rant now, have a good day.
Easy to get burned on shipping big items. I sold a set of V&H longshots on ebay and boxed them up, took them to the local UPS and priced shipping to Seattle (from Atlanta). Figured that would cover the cost to almost anywhere in the lower 48. They ended up selling to someone in Kansas so I was covered, and made an extra $6.00. It would have been nice if your customer threw in a few more $$ to help out, but like you said, "a deal's a deal".
I can see where you're coming from. I tend to fault you for not doing a thorough enough investigation into the shipping costs but it would have been cool of him to perhaps split the difference with you.
I had the same thing happen on a set of wheels I bought on E-Bay. We agreed on a price that included shipping. When he shipped, it cost him more than planned. He told me about it, and said it was his fault for not checking better, but asked if I could help out some. I sent him a check for half the extra cost and still got a good deal on the wheels and tires.
I am a firm believer that if a person will do the right thing, everything will work out in the end. It's just that anymore too many people either don't know what the right thing is, or they just don't care.

Hi Bill. A BIG Thank you for your post on Durango, appreciate that.
My definition of aperson withgood character - "A person who will do the right thing, when theright thing is the hardest thing to do"
Chris, Honest of you to say you didn't check it out thoroughly. Would be nice if he split the diff as Bill said. But sort of chitty IF he doesn't log on and say "Thanx". I say IF, becuz like you have stated, he may not have logged on, or he has other things going on that we are unaware of. (I am a push over at times, will always give the benefit ofthe doubt.)
In the past I have taken the box to my local UPS Storeto get the correct price before shipping. This has avoided headaches like yours.
Maybe no news is good news......he could have called you and said the part was damaged,etc-.
Just consider it a lesson learned.
For sure one must look at all costs when selling whether in business or private sales. Also I feel one must learn patience,,, the buyer did what you agreed,,, sent you the money in a timely fashion and you shipped in timely fashion.
The patience I refer to is this,,,although you didn't name him,,, now you have made a rant in the open forum towards him without knowing if he actually has knowledge of your dilemma of miscalculation of the shipping,, it wasn't his fault,,, you admit it was yours, but you have implied that he is not thankful of you and should have helped on the cost.
I guess what I'm saying is this fellow did nothing wrong for you to rant on him here about this deal on which you both had agreed on.
