Default 2 - 4 gb MP3 Player?

I'm looking for a bike friendly 2 - 4 gb MP3 Player.
This is for hubby so does not have to be flashy. I offered him my Ipod but he really wants his own... the shuffle is really all he needs....he is not mister techno. I was only concerned that it only has 2 gb.

Do I go shuffle/Nano or another manufactuer?

I say stick with iPod. Best thing going with lots of gadgets. Go for the 8gb nano. Anything less and he WILL run out of room even creating playlists. I have 3. an iPhone, a nano for running and an 80gb in the truck.

The Nano is all he needs if he's not "Mr Techie". 4 GB is alot of memory when you're playing mp3's. Literally thousands of songs...sound like enough?

Bluerose,
The 2GB Shuffle will still allow him to carry up to 500 songs. Does he need more? The Shuffle is simple, but then again, so is the Nano. Also the decision is spending approx. $70 or $150. I got the Nano as a gift and the only drawback I found is that it doesn't clip on like the Shuffle unless you buy an attachment. Either way he will like it.

I moved from my iPod to my cell phone...I have 8 gb and it's not proprietary.

Got really ticked at ITunesbecause they haverefuse to reset computersas end points even if the computer is gone and never accesses the site. They also cannot transfer songs related to one email address to anotherso when I canceled an accout I had to back up all my songs and some still show as locked so I can't use them. Apple just saud "tough ****".

I still use the iPod once in a while but never buy anything from Itunes. I'd rather spend money on a full CD.

We each got a free 1 year subscription to Napster when we bought our BlackJacks last year. They'll let you have up to 3 computers and 3 mobile devices per account.

We're pretty happy with them so far, and we're planning on resub'ing when it expires next month.

Might be worth a try for ya.

I feel ya there... I only buy stuff from iTunes that I can't get somewhere else. I'll usually just rip a cd then put it in the attic.

I was thinking he could just velcro the thing in his bike's glove box so I want it to be small and easy to use.I think I have 2 gb on mine right now and I'm not really lacking music.

Maybe I'll get him a 2 gb shuffle and if he gets to the point of wanting more he'll take my old nano (4 gb I think)

I'll buck the trend... I have an iriver CLIX (first series) 4 gb mp3/mp4 and it has an FM tuner.... they're all good and depending on how he rips his music, you can get a LOT of music.... I have my choice of quality... I figure for home listening... it's CD quality... but for the bike? I go with FM quality.... half the quality... but when I'm riding... the music is not most on my mind...

Bluerose, you can cut a cd in mp3 format (essentially putting mp3's on a data disk) and put hundreds of mp3's (660MB worth) on a single CD without having to buy a player. Most of the Harley HK radios will play mp3. You can cut a number of CD's to pop in based on mood. If ya break one, cut another. Costs a couple of bucks...
