It wouldn't be bad if they could come up with a way to more-or-less hide the radiator. Maybe something along the lines of how the Softails look like a rigid; I think a lot of folks' problem with water cooling (besides tradition) is that the radiator up front takes away from the aesthetics of the bike's classic design. Couldn't you hide the radiator on a touring bike as long as you can direct airflow across it?

I thought Harley had Water Cooled V-Twins now & have had since 2003,or dosen't the V-Rod qualify..
Cheers,Graham.
Nope. Doesn't qualify. All Harleys have 45 degree, air-cooled, OHV V-Twins. So a water-cooled one will never happen, no matter how much the jap-bike lovers want one.

If they do offer it I think it should be an option that way they can cater to both

the v rod looks pretty good with its radiator, cannot visualize it on a dresser though. Sure hope MOCO doesn't mess with tradition. Luckily there are tons of great used bikes on the market for years to come.

I cant be 100% sure about anything, but.....whatever the MOCO does weather it be in 2010 or next week, I am willing to bet they will not stop making the air cooled 45* V-twin. Its that engine that made HD, and if they ever stopped making it it would spell the END for the MOCO IMHO. Sure they will eventually expand the usage of the v-rod engine, and prob base a line-up around it, but who knows. What I do know is, they will be making variations of the current air cooled engine for many years to come.

Anybody see the article in American Iron (April, pg 163) about the scooter, or Scootster as it's apparently "officially"called. They were careful not to name names, but dropped so many hints it's hard to imagine it coming from anywhere else but the MoCo. It will be introduced with a 400cc liquid cooled engine. Maybe that's what all the hype is about?? [sm=icon_quiet.gif]
Really thought it was just an april fool's joke.

i think they'll offer it more, like in a bagger or something. i've seen a lot of demand for it, so i could see it being an option.

Motorsickles don't have radiators.
There are a few people who would disagree with that assumption.

I've been watching this EPA document and its continually getting updated. The last 2 updates were 12/21/2007 and 02/05/2008 (just last month). They seem to be testing a pair of Water Cooled touring bikes (from the indicated names with the word ultra in them). It looks like they started testing in 2005 (original date of the document) and they are still testing.

FLHTRSHCE - Heritage Ultra Tail and FLHTR-SE-9 - Heritage Ultra Tail Special are the models designated.

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/regs/roadbik...arley-pres.pdf

You can see the effects of the EPA more everyday. I have a pair of Screamin Eagle Street Performance Mufflers and they are laser etched with 4 lines oflegal mumbo jumbo about being EPA compliant. My guess is one day down the road, if the markings (like the DOT markings on helmets) aren't present, a citation will be issued. I bought a K&N RK-3909 air filter and they gave me a CARB sticker that I can affix to the bike to show it meets all the EPA requirements. The EPA is working on regulating the noise and emissions of Lawn Mowers also!

All the air cooled cars are gone, VW and Porshe seemd to be the last holdouts and they converted to H2O cooling around 99-00 if I remember correctly. I think the air cooled twin is eventually destined the same fate as the dinosaurs, unless Harley can get some special exemption. Or they might start hanging all types of smog devices on the bikes or detuning them more to meet emissions.

I know a lot of people seem unhappy about the prospect of Harley switching to Water Cooling at some point in the future, but would you really hang up the saddle and stop riding if that happened? Did people stop riding when ECUs and Fuel Injection came out?
