Ok I need help. I owned a metric bike, went to HD demo day, rode a Harley for the first time ever, bought a new Electraglide. Economy got tough work slowed and I had to sell it. I am now in the market again, metric is not an option to me, but I can only afford a 1200 sportster-used. I'm 5'10 198lbs, and hear I'm too big, it's a girls bike. No one ever calls a metric a girls bike due to size. A Harley is a Harley is it not or am I crazy??????
Man,
You get want you want and can afford and ride it.....
It's a scooter.
REAL bikers will be glad just to see ya' ridin'..
I've owned bikes my entire life and it took me 'til I was 55yo before I could afford an HD.....
Get it and ride it.
We have several guys in our group who ride Sportsters.
We have a few metrics.
RIDE!
Stogie
It's a Harley,thats all that matters..
My brother-in-law bought a 883 Sporty for the 95th Annv. because he wanted a HD. He is 5'10" got to be 200-200 lbs.
He didn't care so why should you..
I was gonna buy one because of gas prices and my truck loes gas.I decided to get rid of the gas hog and get the bike that I really wanted.
Get the Sporty and enjoy!
Get what works for you man. As long as you're riding, it's all good. A good buddy of mine had a 1200, I rode it plenty of times, felt great and I'm 6'2" 235 lbs. Enjoy and ride safe!

Spotrsters are great bikes.I've been riding themfor years and they're still my favorite Harley...by far. They've been in production since '57 and are pure Harley Davidson. At some point they got the rep. of being a girls bike or a starter bike but what most people fail to remember is at one time they were THE bike to have.I know plenty of 1%ers who ride Sportsters and I doubt anyone will tell them they're riding a girls bike.Generally ,the people who put down Sportsters really don't know what they're talking about. They've heard other people put them down so they feel they need to do soas well, without really knowing why.Sportsters are realitively inexpensive and you won't get all the bells and whistles but they are very reliable, still one of the fastest Harleys, and just plain fun to ride. Some people prefer other models, but to put them down is just ignorance.Don't worry what other people think or say.If you like the Sportster, get one and enjoy it.
I have owned 2 Sportsters, they are great bikes & FAST! NEVER heard about the "girls bike" thing until I read some posts in a couple of the forums. I think a Sporty is a more of a "man's bike" than a lot of the models. Besides, I hear the Deluxe is the new "girl's bike".
