Default RE: Packing for long trips

I me and wife travel all the time and extended trips (3 or more days). We travel only on the warmer months when we dont have a take a lot of winter closes. Our leather coats both have zip out linnings and vents. That way we can stay warm at night and strap them down on top of bags if we have to during the day. We live by the rule of 3. Three sets of closes. Two in the bag and 1 we are wearing. Every 3 days we have to wash but most motels have washing machine. Several let us use there industral ones. You will be getting t shirts along the way so remember that.I take a full light weight tool kit that rolles up in a carpenters apron, Strean 2 peace slicker for both of us that fit in side pockets of Tourmaster rack bag, sunscreen, camrea, map. On long trips I take a face shield that snaps on my 1/2 healment in a saddle bag. Do not have windshield and hard rain for an extended time will drown you with a bandana tyed around your face!!!! Roll everything and secure w/rubber bands.I have 2 small quick disconnect saddle bags and a large Tourmaster with roll bag on rear rack to stuff every thing in.

Place everything you think you'll need on the floor.
Remove half of it.
Look at whats left and start sorting out half of it.
The rest is placed on the bed before removing half of it.
If it contains more than could be packed in one saddlebag, remove half again.

Seriously, How many of you havn't returned home and start unpacking and realizes that you havn'e used more that a third of what you thought was neccesary to pack?

For a tree weeks tour I can manage with one saddlebag!

Go to this site, Motorcycle Trip Checklist and generate a custom trip list to your needs.

I usually carry a tent and sleeping bag, colman stove, coffee pot and coffee, along with the usual mentioned above.

I pack what I know I will need and items that I think I may need. Example, carry tools and first aid kit but never needed either. So should I leave them behind? NO!!

That HOG list is the most overblown list I have ever seen. They recommend you bring spare spark plugs and spark plug wires????????

Rain gear, some tools, some socks and underwear, jeans and a cell phone. Wash your clothes on the road. You will buy T-shirts etc on the way. If you need oil go to a dealer. Anything that you really need on the way, buy, or borrow it.

I ride a sportster with small leather bags and really have to pack light. About the only "trick" I might use is that I pack my almost worn out underware and socks. As I use them, I throw them away and if necessary, buy some more at Wally World.

It doesn't change what I pack but it does save me the hassle of having to do laundry along the way.

Yea, Yea, Yea... all that stuff is good to bring, but I didn't see any of the most important essentials....Emergency kit consisting of: mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, blush, curling iron, hair dryer, hair accessories, lady schick, perfume (no need to bring the jug, the travel size will do), , nail polish (limit 3); Change of clothes: tube top, shorty shorts, chaps, stiletos (these don't pack very good, so you might only be able to fit one or two pairs);colour co-ordinated bandanas, belt (in case you need to put something a little extra on if it gets chilly)
