Maybe it's been stated, but for peace of mind,I don't goout of townwithout a fuel siphon hose, one long enough to reach into a car/pickup gas tank. Just used it again to help a biker on our last rally. Never had to go far to find a can in the ditchthat can be rinsed out with fuel to siphon fuel into.

If you roll your clothes, they will have fewer wrinkles. Other essentials;
1 qt of oil
take as many frozen bottles of water as you have room, wrapped in terry hand towels. As the water thaws, you have cold water to drink. wrspped in the towel slows the thawing of bottles not used. you also have a cool towel to wipe your face and neck.
good bike tool kit, i.e. windzone or cruztools
sunscreen usually 30
chapstick or lip balm
day glasses (2) night glasses (2), in case you break or loose a pair.
Helmet for Helmet states.
Antiseptic wipes
small first aide kit
rain gear
cell phone
credit cards
road service card
tire plug kit (if you have alloy wheels) Stop and Go has a good one w/CO2 bottles for inflating.
bungee cords
rotor lock
plastic coated cable and pad lock
side arm
condoms
playtex dish washing gloves, large enough to fit over leather gloves for rain riding
octane booster, 2 bottles are good for 8 tank loads when you can't get 91 octane.

pack the bags and trunk with items that you don't need at hand. rack bag should have items you want frequently.

If you pack what the hogs tell you to pack you'll need a truck to store it all. 10 day trip for me;4 pants, 10 tshirts, sweatshirt, chaps, leather jacket, leather vest, flash light (which I never used), helmet, dew rags, goggles and sunglasses, glovesand of course lots of money. Anything else I might need I just buy on the road. If you think your bike will need spare parts for the road then maybe its time for a new bike.

Otherwise get out there and enjouy the road.

Allot of us, I'm sure have gone through this ordeal, of what to take and not to take.
Depends mostly if you are alone or not.
My second trip accross country was hauling a trailer, with the intent of making things comfy for the wife, in our old age.
We learned that it was a complete waste of time and energy to haul all this **** around, and that includes the list posted above.
We been accross five tims in the last seven years.

It took more time trying to find stuff amongst all that crap then it was worth.

Everything mentioned in the list can be purcased when you get petro.

When I travell now it is with a change of cloth, camera, identification papers, neccessary funding, beer money and a positive attitude.

Do your self a favour leave most of that baggage (and mental bagage) home.

Agreed, that is one handy link. That H.O.G. list blows my mind! Where are you supposed to put all that stuff?

21 day trip, 3 t-shirts, 2 jeans, vest, leather jacket, socks, boots, sneakers for when not riding, shaving kit for comb, deoderant, toothpaste, shampoo and toothbrush (did not shave on the trip), helmet (for states that require it), fingerless gloves, winter gloves, bandanas (2), tool kit, flashlight and I am sure a few other things. Wife brought a bunch more stuff for herself. Oh, yeah, sunscreen and make sure you use it from day one. I got sunburned my first day in Kentucky when I could first ride without the helmet. Burned the crap out of my forehead after we left Cumberland Gap. We washed clothes every third day at hotel laundry. You can get by on not much. Of course, if you are camping you will need more.

Pack your spare m/c key (or FOB) just incase you lose your original....boy that would suck on a long distance trip.
