Default Nonmelonhead helmets

OK, I am temporairily done buying some stuff for the bike, now I need a decent, DOT preferred, helmet that does not make me look like a melonheaded retard. 1/2 helmet is what I'm thinking. As usaul, thanks for everybody's input

Look at the Fulmer helmets. I have one of their halfs with a visor and it's pretty low profile.

I have tried carbonfiberhelmets.com and they just don't fit me right and they are expensive. These seem to be the smallest and lightest DOT around. If it fits you keep it. If not they have a great return policy.

I have a Fulmer half as well. I think it's called the smoothie or something. It's pretty low profile. Flat black color is a cool look.

I also have both a 3/4 and a 1/2 Fulmer helmet. I tend to wear the 3/4 (af255) more often. When the temps get way up there I switch to the z05 half helmet. Great helmets, IMO, and less expensive than others.

Check 'em out here. http://www.fulmerhelmets.com/Product...ct%20Index.htm

My favorite is the HD Spoiler half helmet, but this weekend I bought two Scorpion EXO200 3/4 helmets so I can install the intercom set up for use on the Ultra. Both the Spoiler and EXO's have some shape to them that makes them look less globular? (is that a word?)

I see a couple of people have recommended Fulmer already. I won't go that far but it is probably more than a coincidence that that is what I ended up with as well. I am king of the melonheads when it comes to DOT approved half helmets and that INCLUDES, for me, ACC's DOT approved carbon fiber helmets. After trying on the ACC at a rally, I was extremely disappointed and wasn't about to pay that kind of money for something I still couldn't stand to look in the mirror with. That doesn't mean ACC is not for you and it doesn't mean Fulmer is for you. I thought I had tried them all. I even own a Fulmer full face Modular helmet and it still didn't occur to me to try the Fulmer half helmets.

First thing you have to come to grips with is to realize that there is NOT a DOT approved helmet made that will look the same on your head as a novelty style helmet. Accept that and open your mind to willing to live with a different look. What I did was simply try on every half helmet brand and model I came across. I found out early on that mail ordering a helmet just wouldn't work unless I just flat got lucky. You have to try them on and find what is right for you. Maybe you can find the one you want and THEN find it cheaper online but I wouldn't order one blind out of a catalog or website. A buddy of mine was telling me about a Honda dealership about an hour away that carried Fulmer and Skid Lid half helmets. So, we headed out. We both tried several models and both decided we liked the Fulmer Hombre Smoothie half helmet. The key for me was to find a helmet with nice wide, padded straps mounted just inside the shell and also try the helmets on with my riding glasses. It makes a big difference in accepting the look of the helmet with your glasses on. Seems silly to take sunglasses into the store but I found it helped a lot. I won't be riding without eye protection in the form of shaded or clear lense foamie style glasses so I might as well include them when I try the helmets on, right? The strange part of my experience was that Fulmer, for example, had several different models that looked indentical when you compare side to side but the fitment was way different when we tried each model on.

Anyway, hopefully that will help you. Most of us have to deal with "great gazoo head" but keep looking and you'll find one you can live with.

The Vega XTS is pretty low profile. I have the naked in flat black. Good price too - $50 or so.
