Awww, come on guys, I moved from Chicago to Lake Charles 6 - 7 years agobecause I was sick of the big city. Its not that bad - I love it here, though I now live temporarily in Henderson for a job I'm on - but I'm going back. It's all about what you make it, there are good people here - just don't hang out with Bubba the 2 tooth looser and teach your daughter right. Stupid is as stupid does - don't be stupid and you can make a good go of it here.

Same here fightn+Tiger. I am from Louisana and live in Houston. From New Iberia La. I still regularly visit my family there and may be back there one day.

Maxcustody,
You know that Pineville is dry right? Im a booze hound and their aint no way I could do it. Louisiana is good but make sure to compare property value to Texas. You will find that you can but alot more house for the same money in Texas. Look at the schools if you have kids. Texas schools seem to be better funded as well.
I am not dissing LA, I love the place but I am just saying look around and keep your options open.
We need to get together and ride sometime. Weare originally from BR but live in Deer Park.. Seems like alot of La transplants.

Retired military here, living in NW Louisiana. Originally from Northern Illinois but came to Lousiana in the early 70's and again in theearly 80"s and decided to stay. Only 120 miles from Alexandria. Heat and humidity, lower cost of living. Home ownership somewhat reasonable. Spent some time in the Alexandria area. Not a big city but Pineville is even smaller, kind of like the suburbs of Alexandria. Renegade HD located in Alexandriais a great dealership. One of the better HD stores I have visited. In fact, leaving Saturday morning to attend a charitable event at Renegade. 3000 lbs of fresh spicy mudbugs, spicey corn on the cobb and spicey red potates (all free). Did I say spicey. Band, ride, Dyno Truck.

Lots of hunting and fishing in the area, very close to Toledo Bend Reservoir, one huge water body. Kisatchie National Forest with hiking, backpacking and riding trails. Natchez, LA, oldest city in Louiisana also close by. Numerous Plantations.

Like someone above mentioned, you can ride your Harley on the secondary roads for hours without running into any significant traffic. Renegade HD puts on a lot of rides and social activities. Texas is close by for riding your Harley, Republic of Texas (ROT) Rally, Lonestar Rally, Galveston, TXas well as Motorcycle events inNew Orleans, Gulf CoastofMississippi and the Florida Panhandle.

Much more, but all I can think of for now. Contrary to some negative statements above their are pros and cons living anywhere in the country. I personnaly have found Louisiana to be a great State to live in. Well suited to my life style and financial status. Also some great Harley riding throughout the year. Just one persons opinion (mine).
