I am possibly transferring to Louisiana, near Alexandria. Can someone give me some info like yearly weather, cost of living, etc. Basically pros and cons. I am also looking at Texas and Florida. Thanks
I lived in Alexandria for 30 years before moving to Baton Rouge 2 years ago. Weather, like any place in the south is extreamly humid during the summer, usually 90+ and humidity above 75%. Winters usually mild, I ride at least once a week thru winter. Very seldom snows. Alexandria is far enough inland that hurricanes usually are not a threat, except Katrina and Rita. Cost of living is pretty good. Apartments run about $500.00 to $900.00 per month depending on how nice you are accustomed to. Pros are cost of living and the winters. Cons are Summer heat and Alexandria area is small and not a lot to do unless you hunt and fish. Bigger cities are Baton Rouge about 120 miles away, Shreveport about 120, and New Orleans about 190 miles away. I liked the atmosphere and living north of the Red River, in Pineville or where I lived was Grant Parish. Oh we have Parishes and Corp limits not counties and cities. Texas will probably be close to us, living wise. Florida is something completely different. Feel free to PM me and ask any questions. My kids live up there and I go up there at least once a week. What kind of work do you do? Goverment or England Industrial Park are the only places, I would think would transfer people to.
Thanks for all the info. I was in Alexandria in July 03 for a 3 weeks of training, so I know how hot and humid it can get. That is the only time I have been there, so I didn't know about the rest of the year. I work for the Government, I would be buying a house, so I was looking at one of the realtor sites just to get a feel. I was looking at Pineville.
No problem, let me know if there is anything specific you need to know. If I don't know I can find out real quick.Side note, They do have one of the better HD dealers in Louisiana. I bought myboth of my Harleys there.

RE: Louisiana
Well, Max. I'm not very familiar with Alexandria, but I'm in the neighborhood. Just east of Lafayette. If you end up down here, we'll have to get together for a beer or three.
RMBLON, Thanks again, I'm sure I will be contacting you. I have to still tell my wife we may be moving to LA. Like I said it is open right now, but it will be Texas, Louisiana or Florida, only time will tell. Thanks again.
[sm=signs003.gif] Louisiana is my home state(friendliest atmosphere in the world)..now living in Houston, and try to get back every chance i get..best part is that you can cruise down back roads and go miles and miles without seeing a car..

Same here fightn+Tiger. I am from Louisana and live in Houston. From New Iberia La. I still regularly visit my family there and may be back there one day.
Maxcustody,
You know that Pineville is dry right? Im a booze hound and their aint no way I could do it. Louisiana is good but make sure to compare property value to Texas. You will find that you can but alot more house for the same money in Texas. Look at the schools if you have kids. Texas schools seem to be better funded as well.
I am not dissing LA, I love the place but I am just saying look around and keep your options open.
If you move to Louisiana, go ahead and plan on giving HALF of your earnings to the welfare system. These cockroaches do well here. Oh, get ready to pay outrageous insurance premiums so the state officials can get their cut too. .........Sespool. Your vehicle will last approx. a year from the time you take-up residence because the roads will destroy it in no time. Your pre-school children will excel in a highschool classroom with no problem at all as little Cedric holds the rest of the class back. Your wife will leave you for some beer drinking redneck that wears wife beater shirts, stanky breath and 2 teeth to his name that drives a four wheel drive with welded on bumpers. You'll think WalMarts is comparable to Sacs Fifth Avenue. You'll learn to steal, cheat, and pillage to keep from going to work. Other than these few perks, it's fine. Please don't make me say I told you so, move on.
