I bought some custom fitted earplugs and wore them all the time for awhile. I have problems with infections in my left ear, however, and after I got a fungal infection I was told not to put anything in my ear so that it would stay dry.
I need to go back to the ear doc and see if I should start wearing them again. But since the doctor in the office next door told me not to ride at all, I'm not anxious to talk to either of them.
But from what the ear doc told me, it's a good idea for normal people to wear them if you want to preserve your hearing. I can't wait to be normal again.
I hear that hearing-aid places make them. I had the audiologist in my ear doc's office get some for me. They cost $80, but I'm sure they could be found cheaper somewhere.
It would be great if I could get some that had speakers built into them but yet still attenuated external noise, but I haven't looked too hard yet.

I need to get some custom ones. The cheapy foam ones don't work very well. Any suggestions?
The custom ones are kinda pricey. I like the Remington shooters plugs or similar from walmart (in the pharmacy section), can't remember the name brand. They're like military plugs, soft rubber. I loose them all the time and couldn't bear it if I lost a $150 pair of customs. Don't like the earplanes, too hard.
I'll check those out -the walmart ones first. My sister and her husband have custom plugs as they shoot sporting clays and I know they dropped a good bit of change on theirs. Worth it though if it preserves my hearing. It's not so bad on the back roads, but the interstates are hell.
