Iron Horse is a great place... and the people are wonderful....
remember you're in a DRY county, so if you intend to drink.... you'll have to pack it in... and if you DO..... you'll suddenly be VERY popular.....

that area is one of the few to realize that bikers are not trash and have money!! most of the businesses that cater to the travelers have "bikers welcome" signs posted.
That's not what the guy who owns the museam told us. He says that he and Maggie Valley have had a love/hate relationship and that when he closes down sometime later year, they'll be glad because it brings too many bikers into their quiet community. Sounds like thebusiness owners need to have a talk with the city council...
I have a friend thatworks at the museum and thats exactly what he told me, they are locking the doors for good on August 31st and its due to the affluent snowbirds that have city council convinced that their town would be much more peaceful without bikers roaring through town.
It is my understanding that sometime prior to closing they are going to auction off the cars and about 150 of the bikes. There is rumor that everyone from Willey G. to JayLeno will be there bidding. However they continue to purchase rare bikes from all over the country????

They are moving to Phoenix so the folks out there are in for a treat when it opens up.

P.S. Has anyone thats been there recently met the colorful resident grounds keeper, he has a riding mower thats a chopper. He is the nicest guy you will ever meet but you can tell he had a lot of fun in the 60's & 70's if you know what i mean.

I first stayed in Maggie Valley in 1978 and have been there many times since then.It truly isa great place to stay since you are in the heart of theSmokies,Dragon,Blue ridge etc.Don't miss going to ChimneyRock!Irespect the locals everywhere I travel and try to leave a good impression, some don't.

Headed up there Sunday and stayed 3 nites. Weather was perfect, by the time I made it back home to Hillsborough NC yesterday I had logged over 1,100 miles. I've been up there a few times before, but rode lotsa great roads I had never been on before.
I highly recomend this place to stayin Maggie Valley. Great older couple has run it for 20 yrs. Nice clean rooms, good prices, grills and picnic tables around.
I would love to "early retire" up there....just gotta find some rich bastard toinvest ina little hotel and let me live there and run it!

Eureka springs Arkansas is another place that knows what being biker friendly means.

ANother good place to stay is the Smoky Falls Inn, just south of the wheels of time. Looks like a log lodge but has great roms, a good restaurant and biker friendly people. He put in one of those metal carport sheds for bikes to park under and has run a hose pipe out there to wash your bike. Pretty bike friendly to me.
