My buddy has a 1200 sporty (I think 2003) carbed last week he jumped it and nothing happened [/align]So he goes out and gets a New Battery [/align]NOTHING he gets nothing ?????????????[/align] I thought long ago on HDF I read where you couldn't jump (would get a ghost )[/align] I did a search and most things said is was OK now I'm stumped[/align]I told him about this page and said I'd get an answer

I have a 2005 sporty and jumped it of my Chevy truck with no problem at all. I connected the Neg. terminal to the frame bolt that the neg. battery cable connects to and the pos. terminal to the pos.side of the battery. Wife gave the truck a bit of gas and when I hit the starter the bike fired right up. -Ed

I never use a car... fried the elect on a bike using that before... why not pop start it
ITs Dead and I'm asking for some help
what can be done without taking it too HD

Voltmeter on the old battery will probably reveal it was good and either the solenoid or the starter is gone. Check switches and wiring first or take starter off and take it in and have it checked.

Most obvious, did you check the run/stop switch and is it in the run position? Also start checking all the fuses in the electrical panel. I believe it's behind the triangle panel on the left side of the bike. One more item, check the cable from the battery positive to the starter for broken wires under the insulation near the connection. Let us know.

I've used car batteries before. Don't have the car running when you do it and don't hook the cables up backwards.
