Welding ceramic coated pipes
Most places are out of stock of the product due to popularity. So I was thinking that maybe I could have a talented welder friend take the old bungs from the factory pipes and wled them into the new head pipes. Problem is, in all of his welding experience, he hasn't had occasion to weld with anything that has been ceramic coated. So before we attempt this, I have some questions....
- Is there a problem with trying to weld to a ceramic coated pipe?
- If we strip off the coating on the outside of the pipe, will the coating on the inside of the pipe create issues like the weld not adhearing properly or the ceramic coating melting off and dripping?
- If the ceramic coating is stipped off at the welding point, will the coating now have a higher possibility/probability of peeling/chipping off?
I could probably wait weeks for the right part to come in and perform an exchange, but I was hoping to get the project done in a more timely fashion. Thankfully, I have my back-up metric to ride while I wait to solve this problem, but the SG is currently parked on the lift in the garage with no pipes...kinda hard to ride at this point.
Any help or suggestions would be much appriciated.

I guess I was hoping to hear from someone that may have had the experience of doing it vs. a "what should I do" issue.
I will still keep it in mind though if I don't get any feedback.

Just make sure you get a good paint or high heat sealer on after you get it welded.
