Default grip comfort?

I like the looks for the billet hand grips - narrow band #56443-00A.

On these grips, you hand will be in contact with metal, not rubber. Will this cause them to be uncomfortable?

Thanks
Dave

I have those grips. They have a nice feel to them and are not uncomfortable. My only complaint is that, yes, unless you have very small hands, you will also be in contact with the rubber strips. I don't like that because they sit a little higher than the grip itself.

So you'd rather not have the rubber inserts?

Seems to me, they'd be pretty uncomfortable for long rides. And you certainly wouldn't want to leave it parked in the sun all day and then jump on to go home.

I'd rather not have the rubber inserts riding higher than the grips. If they were flush with the grips, I wouldn't even notice them. I haven't had an issue with the grips getting hot. Don't know if its because they are made of aluminum and don't conduct much heat, or just because I always wear gloves and never have my bare hand to the metal.

I've done many different materials and thicknesses for grips, still find leather covers over stock HD to be the most comfortable. The laces placed by the fingertips is more comfortable than rubber bands over the grip ends. Just got apair I had TRD leather custom make and put 'em on last night. Yellow hides over purple suede in the shape of a crusader's cross on each side. Just skinned the J&M's with yellow swimsuit cloth to match, I'll post pics when I get the clamshell back on.

I got a friend that runs grips like that on his fatboy. and he has some lengths of water pipe insulation pipe cover (Lowes 2$) that he cut to fit the grip too. He runs the bare metal grip till they get uncomfortable then he slides the pipe insulation on them for some quick relief or just a different feel on long rides. it's somethin cheap a couple dollars and somethin for a different feel. Then a couple guys run the pipe insulation on their stock grips too. Preaty cushy and cheap.

I went through a set of those grips in a year on my Heritage. The rubber gets worn down and you can't replace the rubber--you replace the grip. I had some of the Kuryaken iso grips on my wideglide and I thought that the rubber looked chunky. The Kuryaken were comfortable but ugly in my opinion. I looked at fat sacs but the leather glued to a grip looked like a problem down the road. I went with HD solid billet grips on both bikes. I wear gloves anyway and the billet grips still look brand new almost two years later. The HD billet grips clamp into the switch assemblies. I like clamps better than glue. Just my opinion but I can tell you now that if you buy the grips you show and you ride a lot the rubber will look very worn in a year. I wear out a pair of gloves in a year with normal riding. Gloves easier to replace than grips.

I have them on my fatboy, I love the look and the feel of them. The only complaint, is here it's not the heat you have to worry about so much, but the cold. Especially during the very beginning, and end of the riding season. Hands get cold, due to them getting cold soaked, and being metal. Maybe some headed gloves are in order. I have the matching shifter, pegs, and brake pedal. It's a nice set.

I prefer chrome grips, I find they're much more comfortable than rubber or foam......but everyone will have a different opinion.........here's a shot of mine
