In my travels I have ran across more than a handful of people who were approaching or passed the 100,000 mile mark on their EVO Harley's. Considering the checkered past of the shovelhead the EVO was a HUGE improvement in reliability and longevity. Any hi mileage EVO riders out there care to give us the benefit of your experience with them? What oil did you use? What seemed to be the weak spot or gave you the most trouble? What would you or did you do different withthe next Harley you rode?
I just bought a 2000883 Sportster with less than 10k on the clock. While I doubt I'll put 200k on it like I did my 1100 Wing 50k is certainly not out of the question.(of course I'll probably do a 1200 conv somewhere along the way)
I remember how loose the bottom end of my 1981 Ironhead Sportyfelt after putting36K on it and wonder if the EVO will feel give the same feeling.
I have 100,000 + miles..........The first 50 i used HD dino oil, And the second 50+ i am using Amsoil with 5000 mile changes, So far it runs strong and no smoke...........I use about 1/2 qt. every 3000 miles. other than rocker box gaskets,it's never been apart.
Have 45,000 on my 96 fayboy I figure it is just getting broke in.
Did change pipes and jets when it was new to make it louder.
Starter bendix at 29,000 and on it just put 3rd battery in.
other than that normal maintance.
Used All regular HD oils and lube not the sny till about 4 months ago switched to m1Vtwin
Engine oil tranmission lube is Redline shock proof heavy and F+ in primary
Main reason for change is I use these in my 07. So I only need to stock 1 brand
144k on my Ultra. No smoke, runs strong, 40 mpg unless cruising above 70 , then 35 mpg..
My choice of oil ???? Castrol GTX 20w50 (CAR OIL) changed at 2500 mile intervals...religously....probably get another 144k out of it. Weak point for me is electronics, volt gauge not accurate, gas gauge lies, other than that, no problems
