Default Kids on a bike without a sissy bar?

Where do you stand on the issue for around the town rides/errands? (8 &amp\\; 10 year-old kids who reach the passenger pegs on a regular two-up Sportster seat)

They just need airbags and seat belts. That will teach them.

Awesome pic! I wish there was somewhere near me to teach my kids &amp\\; let them ride.

There should be a backrest of some kind.
&nbsp\\;
Makes me nervous with any passenger and no backrest.

They race at five year old. And they should have one around you. AMA flat track racing.&nbsp\\;The best way to teach somebody to ride. Show children racing with no fear.

. . . that's what I'm thinking, but my 8 year-old is crazed to get on with me, and right now I need to invest in rain gear. So far I have only taken him on a 5 min. ride at 25 mph tops (yes I know that is all it takes). My 10 year old won't ride because it scares him, but he said he will if I get a sissy bar.
Maybe I'll&nbsp\\; buy the $150 H-D High Visibility suit and get the sissy bar- it will probably cost the same as buying the Gore-Tex suit without the sissy bar.

I'm still trying to talk my daughter into letting my 10 year old grandson ride with me...but when he does, my detachable backrest will be on the bike...

They still need to hold on both ways. Some people think they can just sit there, that's not good. I have seen people fall off with sissy bars because they don't know any better.

I look at it this way - how will I feel if someone on the back of my bike goes off the backend and gets hurt, especially my 10 year old son?&nbsp\\; I hate big fat seats, windshields, and sissy bars but nobody gets on the back of my bike without the detachable sissy bar mounted.&nbsp\\; Still many ways to get hurt and honestly, I prefer to ride solo because I can't enjoy it as much when someone else's life is in my hands like that.&nbsp\\; But, I do take all precautions.

No way. Never. Unless you have the kid secured with a harness to you, nope... Bad idea.
