Last weekend a group of us headed down from S. Carolina down Rte 17 to Kellers Flea Mkt. and then the HD Dealer and Hooters. On the way we encountered a funeral traveling southbound, as were we. \\; Rte 17 is a FOUR lane road at this point. with the funeral traveling 25 mph in the right lane. Posted speed was 45 mph and as we were passing in the left lane several cars from the funeral procession pulled right in front of us to prevent us passing them. Were we wrong or were they being idiots. We did not indend any disrespect, and let's face it no ones in any rush to get where he was going. \\; Appreciate any feedback on this, especially if we were in the wrong.
I was born and raised in a small town in the Georgia Highlands, and we would stop traffic in both directions for a funeral procession. \\; I have lived in several states from Florida to Massachusetts over the past 30+ years, and I have observed this \\;custom \\;more in small southern towns.
 \\;
Anyway - I would not have passed a clearly identified funeral procession out of respect.
 \\;
Small towns take their funerals very seriously, so I expect they did indeed view your attempt to pass the procession as disrespectful. \\;\\\\\\; That's not the case in or near the bigger cities, but definitely in the small towns.

In over 50 years of living here in the south, we have always pulled to the right and stopped for a funeral, never once saw anyone trying to pass one. \\; I know with all the illegals now, this can cause somewhat of a problem as they don't have a clue to our customs and don't care to learn them either, as I have be nearly rearended by several "south of the border" types.
It would be highly frowned upon where I live. I have never seen anybody block lanes like you describe, but you sure wouldn't be helping the biker image much. Just really disrespectful.
