I don't put mine on because it makes me feel like I'm riding in a bubble. \\; Most people tell me my bike looks great with the windshield on, but I just don't enjoy riding behind it.
I have a H-D quick release, detachable, compact, low-profile, light-tint(whew) windshield for my SuperGlide. It leaves no hardware on the bike when removed. Comes on/off in seconds. To me the bike looks about as "cool" with or without it. I usually do without on 100mi rides through the backroads. Interstate rides at 75mph with a 25mph headwind, 'nuf said. It's Harleys smallest traditional-looking shield and I can easily see over the top without the top edge interfering with my vision. On really long hauls, which I haven't done, a larger shield may be more useful.
Windshields are a matter of personal preference...I don't have to \\;ride anyone else's bike, and they don't have to ride mine...
I have noticed tho, here and on other forums, that windshield threads are invariably started by people who like them and questioning why anyone would ride without one? I don't care if others like em, why do others care that some of us don't?
 \\;
Then people start pissing on each other's shoes...which is uncool
 \\;
Just ride em...just sayin...[8D]
I always thought my Fatboy looked better without the shield. \\; If I was just puttin around town I'd pull it. \\; My wife practically refused to ride with me on those occasions, she hated that much wind hitting her in the face. \\; So my shield stayed on most of the time and I chose function over form. \\; I have since traded for a batwing and I \\;think \\;this bike is pretty cool too.
I went and put passing lights on a Dyna. Thats proof right there that I flat dont care what anyone thinks about me or my ride.
The windshield comes on and off as needed, as do the bags. But the lights are staying.
Cool is not a prerequisite for riding.
Fun is.
It's obvious to me that they look goofy,[:-] and in my book \\;\\\\\\;goofy[:-] translates to uncool[&:]. \\;\\\\\\; To each his own. \\;\\\\\\; Enjoy the ride!

It's a matter of form vs. function. \\;\\\\\\;
 \\;\\\\\\; FORM
One of the big reasons I "upgraded" from an EG to a RK was its "convertable" nature (e.g. removable wind shield). \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\;IMHO, a RK with hard bags and no wind screen is about a beautiful as a motorcycle gets. \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\;
 \\;\\\\\\; FUNCTION
In fact, I find myself \\;\\\\\\;leaving the wind shield on as often as not, especially when \\;\\\\\\;planning to do some extensived highway riding. \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\;I'm all for the "wind in the face" thing, but I'm also for a little more comfort since I've turned the corner on 50 years old.
 \\;\\\\\\;
 \\;\\\\\\;
 \\;
I agree 100% - being a shallow So. Cal. girl, I prefer form. \\; If I rode at hign speed for long distances I'm sure I would change my mind pretty quickly....[8D]
