OK, I spoke to a Thundermax tech today, and the speedo / tach issue is a known issue and they believe it to be hardware related. They have a situation where one of the pins on the plug receeds an you get a data corruption. This is immediate cause to replace the issue with no questions. They will provide you an RMA number and ship you a new one before you return it if you provide a credit card to cover the cost if you don't return it.

They were extremely helpful and when through all the issues they have experienced on this topic and almost demanded that I return the unit for inspection, since they believe it is hardware related and not software.

If you are having this problem, call them and discuss it. I am shipping mine back tomorrow.

The alarm issue that I am experiencing is not a known issue with Thundermax and they believe it to be either antenna or TSSM related. They have not had reports of the thundermax causing this issue.

Really good people, and they went out of their way to restore my confidence in the unit!

Maybe, but I don't want to pull it in the middle of the riding season. If this is in fact the case, would a visual inspection show this pin receeded, or moving the plug with engine running it should show up with the idiot lights coming on. Yes,no?

Just receive reply to my email about this issue. I got a somewhat different response to the problem. They are looking into it and apparently it can happen after a recent link up. Nothing conclusive at this point but they are working on it. Recommend installing lates firmware as first line of correction. If the problem persists, then send the unit in. On the plus side, there will be a new firmware update coming that will let you view the learned offsets and an easier way to send maps and monitor logs in for viewing and evaluation. Definately a company who cares about its customers. Tried to get advanced software but it only goes to accredited shops, not bums like me.

Don't know about testing it with the engine running. The tech I talked with repeatedly requested that I return the unit for inspection. They will ship you a new unit before you send yours in if you provide a credit card. They are for sure good people. Mine goes to the stealership today to do a warrenty check on the TSSM and other alarm components, so I had to pull the Tmax anyway as it can't be there when it goes to the dealer for warrenty work, plus they can't use the digial tech on the TSSM without the original ECM installed.

I always wondered about that ecm swap. The tmax logs times rpms etc and can be viewed. When they link to the stock ecm and check, won't it seem weird to only have as an example. 3 hours of time on it and 30k on the odometer. This would be your cue to say, That's Normal.

ECM Swap was no problem with the dealer. they believe the alarm problems were the result of a bad wiring plug. They have fixed. Still waiting on the return of my Thundermax so I can put it back in and see if the alarm issues come back. I have had no problems since the repair, but it has the original ECM back in at the moment.

I will say that after running the Thundermax, and putting the stock ECM back in the bike, you really notice how much better the Thundermax does on your bike. you kind of take it for granted when its been installed for a while.

5000 miles with mine in my FXDSE2 and not a single issue. YMMV.

Got my replacement Thundermax via UPS yesterday. They even reloaded the map from the one I sent to the new one. Will install tonight and see if that takes care of my issues with the Speedo and Tach. Great people at Thundermax!

One of their advertised strengths is a high processing speed. Generally with ECM's you want the lowest speed that gets the job done. Higher speeds generate more heat and due to the extreme, for a computer, operating environment heat faults a major concern. I'm not sure how likely a heat fault is to turn into a permentant problem.
