Congrats on the move! My wife and I moved south to Georgia two years ago (from Chicago) and have not regretted it for a minute. Well, other than the helmet law.
There's an old joke among sociologists: The South is Different! (applies to any "south"; whether that's good different or bad different is up to you).
I spent about a third of my time in the Army in the south: Savannah, GA; Columbus, GA; Fayetteville, NC; and a place in north GA called Camp Merrill, for part of a school I attended. In terms of climate and landscape, you've got a little bit of everything down there.
Just go down there and embrace it. You'll love it! Good luck with the move!
Finally get to say I am heading south for good!!! I was laid off back in May along with 1200 other folks from my old company. Told folks I was not even going to look for a job here in New England. They all thought in this economy I was nuts. Low and behold I accepted an offer today. It took 2 months from start to finish but it was done. Better riding weather here I come. Leaving NH and heading to Greenville,SC area.
My neighbors just moved back to N.H. from N.Florida. Said they could'nt handle the hot climate any more. They'll be up to thier rears in snow this winter. Oh well, to each his own.
