Speaking out agaist the government is an american right. Voicing discontent for laws is not automatically a cop bash like so many people seem to think. Cops represent the government, they enforce the laws, so there is an obvious direct connection.
Cops have a lot of discression in how they choose to enforce a specific law and still do their job. If a cop happened to have been involved in a wreck with someone driving drunk, you can bet he will most likely ream your butt for blowing .00001 over the legal limit! On the other hand if a different cop was in a good mood he might just give ya a stern warning and follow ya home.
It was explained to me once they can choose to follow the letter of the law, or the spirit of the law. From my experiences its a crap shoot..50-50. Will the cop be cool, or will he be hard core.
And remember this country was formed by criminals, folks that had no respect for laws! Everyone that signed the Constitution had a price on their heads!
If a LEO smells alcohol on you,, I assure you he won't follow you home, sobriety test and breath test and then he'll decide if you go to jail or not,, if a LEO let someone go like that and they killed someone he would be liable for that.
Many props to the cops enforcing the law, especially in that particular location. Too many cagers driving like nutbags out there. I have nothing but respect for the man in blue.
I'm new to the board and I'd like to say that I really appreciate the direction that this thread has taken.
I've been a cop for 18 years and read through a few different motorcycle forums and normally when I see a "cop thread" I think 'hear we go'. I pretty much had the same reaction when I saw this thread, but instead of cop bashing it took a completely different direction.
Everyone has had a bad experience with a cop....I know I have because I used to work undercover in other jurisdictions. I try to treat people the way that I would like to be treated and I thank you all for not turning this into a negative thread.
THANKS!
cops in my area are REALLY patrolling the streets where motorcycles tend to speed, since there is a HUGE rise in the amount of two wheeled vehicles on the road. i really see maybe 6-7 people get pulled over EVERY day. but never the bikes, only the cages
We live on a posted 35mph road, and the police know where they are welcome to park anytime they want to stop the speeders. Our house is 1/4 mile from light when the traffic gets to our house they are still accelerating.
