I'm new to the board and I'd like to say that I really appreciate the direction that this thread has taken.
I've been a cop for 18 years and read through a few different motorcycle forums and normally when I see a "cop thread" I think 'hear we go'. I pretty much had the same reaction when I saw this thread, but instead of cop bashing it took a completely different direction.
Everyone has had a bad experience with a cop....I know I have because I used to work undercover in other jurisdictions. I try to treat people the way that I would like to be treated and I thank you all for not turning this into a negative thread.
THANKS!
I couldn't have said it better Hatch . Been a LEO for 28 years. I too worked narcotics for 3 1/2 years and had several other than pleasant experiences with uniformed officers. Even by an officer from my own department who did not recognize me. I was hesitant to even open this thread but glad that I did. I enjoy the positive responses.
The cops act the way we as a society make them act, end of the day they have to keep anarchy from becoming the rule. That being said there are about an equal amount of a hole cops per capita as there are in the general socieity. From my own polling that would be about 10% for us Americans. Have never been ticketed on my bike so my opinion might change someday haha.
I've been stopped more than a few times in the 26 years I have been riding and most of the time I was let go with a warning, "everytime" I was stopped, I was doing something to get their attention it was my fault, so I had nothing to say..........
I was at Myrtle Beach Bike Week in 2000 at Suck Bang Blow. Bikes were doing burnouts all over the place, practicing for their "ride through the bar." This Dodge truck stopped in front of the joint and started doing a huge smoky burnout. A motorcycle cop walked up to the driver's door and ticketed the guy right where he was sitting, while the peanut gallery cheered their approval. When the cop walked over to the SBB parking lot, he was grinning and said "it's bike week, it ain't truck week." It was hilarious.
