Would you use STP oil treatment in your bike? I have heard it cuts down some of the top end noise. I put a couple of ounces in my bike and now it idles a little rough. Now I'm thinking of draining the oil. I'm not planning on replacing the filter. Just gonna dump the oil and refill.
It basically thickens the oil and I believe contains a fair amount of zinc. While some zinc is good, too much can have some negative effects. Short of screwing up the 02 sensors, if you have them I can't see how it would effect your idle. Thicker oil, especially on start up is not great for the engine either. Maybe chosing something in the line of Redline 20/60 would be a better choice?

I agree with KBFXLI. The oil I use has the correct ratio of additives and putting anything else with it just messes up the mix. Our bikes have exterior pushrod tubes so you're going to hear more top end noises than a bike without them.
Aftermarket oil additives have been around since the day after the first model T rolled off the line. Save your money and spend it where it will do some good.
My Dad worked for Mobil Oil for over 40 years. One day, I happened to stop by his terminal and a group of engineers were there for a meeting. While talking with them, I asked the question about aftermarket oil additives and the mans answer to me was this.
"Mobile, as well as all of the major oil companies, spend millions of dollars every year on research and development. We are constantly seeking ways to make our oil better and increase our market share. Any additive that is necessary to make that happen is already in there."
So, I took that as a definite NO...additives like STP are unnecessary. If you've got an engine noise that you think is abnormally loud, its source should be investigated.
I have to agree with not using it.
I used some Lucus oil treatment in mine for engine noise. This stuff is almost as thick as STP.
IT DID NOT MAKE THE ENGINE QUITER.
