I was in car sales at one point in my life and I'm sure I will be insulted on what they would give me on my bike. My wife tells me to just buy the aftermarket seats available for two riders. I've seen pictures. That is just flat out ugly as sin. Rockers, either you like them or you don't and I bought it for its appearance as a solo bike. Put all that extra crap on it just looks like I should have bought a bike meant for two people. I will try to sell my bike on my own or I will just suck it up until I can make do something financially to my benefit.
Check out the heartland 2-up conversion, I believe it returns the rear fender to is strut mounted location so that you can have a real 2-up seat. I'm sorry I don't have a link but you can search the softail forum.
I have a 2000 1200C Sporty and a 07 RG. The wife has a 08 RK. For me the RG is the ultimate touring Harley (after adding a tour pak, lower fairings, and CB to the HK radio and rear speakers) I took the wifes RK on a 950 mile trip and loved the bike. It really felt good! She bought desert hawgs, detachable luggage rack and passenger back rest and the quick adjustable driver backrest. The saddle bags hold just enough for tooling around on a weekend and with the luggage rack and passenger back rest you can load it up for a trip. ( I tow a trailer so everything we need is in the trailer, not on the bikes.) With all that said, talk to people who ride what you like and ride like you do. Rent a bike for the weekend to test it. Don't know about FL but up here in WI many dealers will deduct the rental cost from the purchase price. Just make sure the salesperson is clued in when you rent the bike. I really like the looks of the 09's but I would not buy one untill late spring. Find the bugs, fix them and put the fixes in production. This process take a few months. Remember the touring bikes have a new frame and probably will have to have a few tweaks made. Tires and wheels have a larger diameter too. Harley does a lot of testing both in the lab and on the road. Significant testing starts when we begin pounding the highways and byways. Enjoy the ride!
you can put any touring seat on the road king. i had 3 seats for my 04 road king.if you want the extreme ride and the looks go with the street glide, throw the stock seat away and buy a good comfortable seat. i have an 08 street glide with a sundowner seat for my wife and a nice harley leather seat (i cant remember which one).get the street glide and you wont get anything else
08 street glide
103 big bore kit
rinehart true duals
removable tour pak (for the wife)
You've probably had this conversation with your wife, but would she consider learning to ride? It would be a shame for you to get a touring bike then she decide she wants her own bike.

I love our new Road Glide. The Sharknose fairing took some convincing with my wife but after riding on it 400 miles yesterday she's loving it. We put the Sundowner Deep bucket on it and it's great for her. I was comfy on the stock seat and this one is fine as well. We considered other touring bikes but the thing was I only wanted to do it once and not have to spend thousands in upgrades. Full touring with fairing and you have radio, guages, wind protection built in, cruise control on most which your right hand - if your right handed- will love, glove boxes, locking hard bags, his side and hers lol, the list goes on. Whatever you decide wish you all the best with it. Good luck with the Rocker.
Trust me on this ... the RK won't b e what makes your wife happy ....will for a short while , but will always be looking at the wrap around seat the Ultra has with the stereo.... Just man up and get the real deal. I know from experience , did a rk for maybe 6 months and wife LOVES our Ultra
